Sub and Amp Install Help (part 2)

I can't reply to the first thread I posted so I posted a new topic (sorry mods)...

The link to the first thread is here

(continuing)
I grounded the wire by using a ring connector to screw it onto the circular plate behind the trunk access...I had to cut some of the copper wiring to fit it into the connector...is that ok?

It sucks being at work...cant try installing a remote wire till after work ...why is the signal sensing not working...is it b/c I didnt tap the wires at the speakers?

Could there be anything else...

BTW...Titan...Thanks for your help man

Does anyone else have a JL amp with signal sensing...do you use signal sensing...if so where did you tap the wires from...

Could there be anything else I'm doing wrong...

I'm by the Bronx Zoo and Pelham Parkway...

I finally got the amp to turn on...I just grounded it in a different area (spare tire for now )...

Unfortunately, I am not getting any sound from the sub, except for a clicking noise when I fiddle with the amplifier low-pass filter slope selection (?)...I tapped into the blue, black wires (right rear speaker) and red, green wires (left rear speaker)...I tapped positive to positive and negative to negatve assuming that in a monster cable (got them with the deal) the red and blue wires are the positives and the accompanying black wires are the respective negatives...

My stock system works fine...its just the sub that is not producing any sound

What could I possibly be doing wrong

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP

As far as not getting sound, I'm not really sure what the problem could be. Langjae will have to help on that one. Actually, you could try and play around with the switches on the side of the amp. Gain and such.

For grounding, be sure to sand down the area where the amp is grounded. Good luck.

I'm so close yet so far away ...I do here a clicking (popping?) noise when I fiddle with the switches...

Maybe I tapped into the wrong wires...but I did it per the way other people have done it on this board (black, blue, green, red)...I might take a 9 volt and check the wires to see if I here static in the rear speakers...

could there be anything else ...

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP

Man, I'm stuck here, Langjae is really busy and he would be the best person in this area to take a look at it. I might be meeting up with him this weekend, so you can stop by and we will both solve the problem.
Actually, I remember the hi-low converter having some switches or knobs on it? Check those if there are any.

I know this sounds stupid, but did you set the input voltage selection switch to high, since you're tapping your speakers?

Otherwise, if the amp is turning on, I'd try adjusting the gain, and check the connections to the sub.

what you need to do is tap the signal AFTER the amp (yes the pre-amped signal) all you would basiclly need to do is get some wire taps and tap from the rear speakers. those go to the hi-low box, to rcas to the amp..then it should work

If it is a JL-Audio amp w/ signal sensing, you don't need a remote wire. I have been running my amp w/o a remote wire since day one. You just need to play w/ all the adjustments.

Also, you could go to the JL-Audio website. They list initial setups for each model amp.

Good luck

OK...I just spent another 3 hours working on my car trying to figure this out...

Could not having the amp properly grounded cause no sound to come out of the sub....If so where did you guys ground yours?

When the rca's that are tapped into the speakers are plugged into the amp, the right rear speaker makes a popping noise...even when the amp is not on or connected to the battery...the popping stops when I pull the RCA's out...

I heard you can avoid using a high low converter by tapping into the wires not at the speakers, but tapping the wires at the amp (the blue, black, red, and green wires), so that is what I'm doing...Is that right?

Could their be anything else?

I might just try tapping into the wires at the speakers and using a high-low...

I just dont know anymore

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP

BTW thanks for all your guys help...

Alright...now I kno the subs work (hooked one up to my cd player and it was workin)...so it has to be something with the way I am tapping into the wires and which wires I'm tapping...

Can someone tell me again what wires I have to tap if I want to tap the preamped signal (so I dont have to use high low)...

Or could there be something else

Thanks

That's totally unnecessary. Hi-low level converters are just a waste of money and invitation for ground loop noise for our stock sound system. You can tap to the outputs from stock HU before the Bose amp. These wires are at line-level, not speaker level.

OK. You have to solder RCA cables to the stock HU outputs.
BLK: Right rear (-) connect to the outter of RCA cable (right input to JL amp)
BLU: Right rear (+) connect to the center of RCA cable (right input to JL amp)

GRN: Left rear (-) connect to the outter of RCA cable (left input to JL amp)
RED: Left rear (+) connect to the center of RCA cable (left input to JL amp)

Wait..so in a monster cable, the blue and red wires (outside wires) are the negatives, and the black wires (inside/center wires) are the positives ?

Another 3 hours...the time I dont mind, its the frustration thats getting to me...

Well I've tried just about everything...I even switched from monster cables to rca cables and the sub just wont turn on...I tried using signal sensing and the amp wont even turn on...

I know the amp and sub works, b/c I hooked up my cd player to the amp and set it on signal sensing and it worked perfectly...

I know I have tapped the right wires (red/green - left speaker, blue/black - right speaker)...so I cannot think of what could possibly be wrong...

I've read every related post to sub and amp installations on acl and atl...I just cant figure it out...

If anyone have any ideas (ANY IDEAS) please help...

Silverknight...I would take pictures, but no digi...

Thanks

dude, if your auto sensing is connect and the amp doesn't not turn on, there are 2 possibilities.
1. The auto signal sensing switch is OFF, need to push it to ON

2. The way you tap into the wires is wrong, that's why there is no signal going to the amp.

I was gonna post a pic but darn ... cannot attach pics now.

The switch is on, but yeah there must be something wrong with the way I tapped the wires...

That something is what I cant figure out...

If you could post some pics, that would help a ton...

Thanks

I was gonna post a simple drawing about RCA cable but the feature was disabled. I cannot post any pic from my system that would help you cuz my system doesn't contain anything with the word "Bose" on it, except for the HU cassette's flap and the back speakers' grille
