Navi. woes.

This is kind of embarassing.
But how the #^$%^#$ do you use the Navi?

When I want to type in an adress all it lets me do is pick the state, city and street number. Doesnt allow me to add in the address to the place. Am I missing something here?

Also since my CL-S is an 01. I don't think the Navi. DVD is up to date. Has anyone updated there Navi. DVD with a more current version. The Honda dealer told me to visit acuranavi.com.

I don't think I ever had this problem. It always asks for the street name and then the address number as I recall. Mine is in the shop getting a new Navi so I can't verify the steps for you.
Read the manual or keep trying, good luck.

umm... 123 yourstreet
yourtown
Texas

this IS an address(?) I have an 01 cl and have no problem with this.. perhaps just play with it a little bit?

btw-- yeah there is an Update DVD, but it's crazy expensive and some have complained that they didn't like the change in voice of the 'japanese sounding' woman we have. I didn't update, so others can comment more about this.

Dead-fox thanks for the help.

Unfortunetely its not helping

I've played with this for hours and no luck.

Here's a scenario.

Screen turns on.
1. Click address - in upper left of screen
2. Screen comes on says:
Select by state
city
street

3. I make sure the state is MN
4. I make sure the city is rochester
5. I go to street. I type in 14th st.

Then it goes to the screen that calculates the trip.

If I type in the address # on the screen with street name. It won't allow me. For example. If I type in address 643 14th st. It lets me punch in 64, but not the 3. It thinks I want 64 st.

WTF?

Anyone got an idea?

Would getting the newer version DVD rom help @ all?

i have one of the newer ones (so im not sure if its the same procedure for you), but here's how it basically works. first you make sure the state and city is correct, then type in the street (no street number). after you type in the street, then it will ask you for the number (on a screen of its own). yeah, it's kinda weird how it works, it would of been much easier if it just let you type in everyone in one screen, instead of break it down into 8billion small fields.

Guys I'm still in need of help here.
Not having any luck what so ever!

I've played with the nav. for about a total of 5 hours and still can't figure how to get my address # in.

I found that it will allow me to enter a home or business address only if I am physicaly in that current city. For example. If the CL and I are in Anoka, I can then enter the street address and home # in the unit. But if I want to enter an address to a home in Rochester. It wont let me. And yes I go back to the screen, and make sure I am in the right state and in the right city. I will type in Rochester ( for example ) and it will ask for a strett name. But it doesnt ask for a street number ( which is the home address # ).

Im sure a lot are getting sick of this thread. But any help would be greatly appreicated. I only have 23 more days to decide if I want to keep this car. After 30 days I'm stuck with or without a working nav. system.

my guess is that our older navi's don't have all the streets and address information in rochester? I have noticed that some towns don't have the data that a new DVD will probably solve.. if this isn't the case, i am just not followin ya very well.. sorry bout that.

I guess I'm a fine one to offer advise on operating a computer....I can't figure out how to use this one!

My approach to entering an adddress is:

1. Select the state.

2. Enter the stret name - without regard to the city.

3. "List" the cities that have the desired street.

4. Select the city.

5. Enter the street number.

6. "OK"

FWIW, the program on your nav computer may be corrupted. I have updated my DVD data base three times over the years. With each data update, the nav computer program is updated/upgraded. The new DVD's are a bit pricey, but this may be the solution to your problems.

Angry

Thanks.
But no luck with that approach.

I did what you listed and heres what happens.

For an example. Here is where I want to go:

643 14th ST NE
Rochester, MN

1. I selected state: MN

2. I entered strett name: 14

3. I clicked "list".

4. I clicked the street I want to go to. "14th St NE".

5. You said to then click on the city. After I click on the street it goes right to - street number.

6. I type in the address I want to go to and click ok.

7. It then gives me options of address's with that number on my area. But not the city I want to go to.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's another route I tried.

Heres where I want to go:

643 14th St NE
Rochester, MN

1. Turn on car.
2. Click K on Navi. screen when it turns on.
3. Click :ADDRESS
4. Click : STATE ---> MN
5. Click : CITY ----> Rochester
6. Click : STREET NAME -----> 14
7. Screen then goes to options of streets with 14 in them in Rochester.
---------- would look like this ___________

14th ST NE Rochester
14th ST NW Rochester

8. Click : 14th ST NE Rochester
9. Next screen is "CALCULATE ROUTE TO..." screen. It would display............

Calculate route to . . .

14th ST NE Rochester MN

ok-button map- button change method - button

It never lets me type in the 643 (street number/address).

Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Seriousley!! $10 to the 1st person who can help me~~~~~

Try turning the car on, eject the CD, turn off car, turn car back on after 3-5 minutes, reinstall cd. Basically rebooting the navi drive. Maybe it just needs a kick in the nuts.

seriously-- this sounds like the data that you want is just not on the DVD. This would explain why you can only get to the street level, and not the street number level. Try inputing another address and see if it works. try this one:

click address
STATE: DC
CITY: WASHINTON
STREET NAME:Pennsylvania Avenue
STREET NUMBER: 1600

if it works, then I am guessing that rochester isn't fully mapped out. if it doesn't work, then I would have to believe there is something wrong with your navi.... I haven't had the chance to try out your address in my navi yet, but that will also help to narrow down the problem once I get to it.

WTF!!!!

I entered the address you listed and it worked perfectly!!!!
I had no problem entering the street number (address)!!!

WTF?

But it does not allow me to enter my street number (address)?.

I know what your thinking. Well then it sounds like your street number isn't on the DVD or nav. unit. But when I 1st drove the car last Thurs. I entered:

643 14th ST NE
Rochester, MN

And had no problem. It let me enter the above. And it worked perfectly?

I swear Im not on crack.

If other people could try entering my address and tell me what happens with there unit I'd appreciate it.

State: MN
City: Rochester
Street name: 14th ST NE
Street number (address): 643

and please try

State: MN
City: St.Cloud
Street name: 15th ST N
Street number: 3005

And tell me what you get.

Also what version of the DVD nav are you using?

I just typed in both of the addresses.....and both worked in my car using your input technique:

1. State,

2. City,

3. Street, and

4. Number.

One other approach might be, while in front of 643 14th St., N.E., press the Acura icon in the middle of the screen and see where the Nav system thinks it is. It should give an address besides latitude, longitude and altitude.

You might try All Mine's suggestion of re-booting your Nav.

If you were to borrow a DVD from someone local to see if a different DVD worked, you have to be careful and use the same part number DVD as you have installed now. If you use a newer version, your Nav computer will be updated and your original DVD won't work - even as poorly as it seems to now. The DVD's are also, I believe, year and car model specific, i.e., '01 CL.

If it's not too late to ask Santa for a 2007 data base DVD:

https://store.alpine-usa.com/Acuradv.../naviorder.php

Cheers,

Bill

The Nav DVD is updated, or re-booted in this case, with the ignition switch in the ACCESSORY (I) position or the ON (II) position. Then the instructions say that "before calculating a route, the car must be driven on a verified road. As soon as the current road name appears on the bottom of the sceen, the system is ready to use."

One more thing you might try to fix your problem. Go to the "System Setup" page. Press "Previous". This will list all of the previous addresses the Nav has calculated routes to. See if your 643 14th St., N.E., is listed. If it is, you can highlight it and delete it. (You might want to delete all of the addresses you're not interested in.) Then go back and try to reinsert the 643 14th St., N.E., address.

Cheers,

Bill
