My Dad's 1968 Plymouth Barracuda
#6
If I'm not mistaken, wasn't that model referred to as the Valiant Barracuda?, since it was effectively based on the Plymouth Valiant? Came to it's own when it started to share the Dodge Challenger platform in either '69 or '70. Still, a very clean representative of the first gen.

The initial Valiant Barracuda came out around 1965/1966. In 1968, Plymouth introduced the first real Barracuda with 340 cu. in V8. I know because I owned one. I ordered mine with optional limited slip differential and fast ratio manual steering. The latter option was a mistake - great on the twisties but parking was a major workout!
Mine suffered from the same problem reported by many CL-S owners - warped rotors. Also, the four barrel carb had to be rebuilt twice.
But, it was a fun car. I haven't seen one in many years.

Wow - talk about bringing back memories. A buddy from high school had one, either a '67 or '68. Sh*t brown (not kidding) with a huge Harley-Davidson spread eagle in the back window (bought it that way). This thing was such a beater. The original 273 engine blew almost immediately, so he dropped in a 318 from a Duster he had sitting around. Spent many a night tooling around in either that or my pimp '77 Chevy Concours.
I remember the "air conditioning" doors in the footwells, the fold down rear seats, the lack of seatbelts, and a very annoying *wronk-wronk-wronk* while driving due to a bad wheel bearing in the rear. Those were the days...
