Lower Airbox/Resonator question

Lower Airbox/Resonator question
Removed the lower airbox last night and now feeding directly into the k&n filter. For folks who've done this, did you remove the box only and leave the semi-j tube or remove box and tube and feed directly into the filter? Started wondering after I'd buttoned everything back up...
Seems to be better power delivery, in general. I had sputtering when accelerating in 2nd/3rd with the A/C on, and this cleared it up it seems.
BTW, most posts say to follow the Comptech Icebox instructions and remove the front bumper. It can be done by removing the left wheel well much more easily - 1 bolt and 3 clips, then just move it out of the way.
