Jackson Racing T-stat + Mugen Fan Switch

Well, the JR T-stat that I ordered does not fit. It's significantly smaller (in height, width, depth) than the stock unit. The JR T-stat specifies 52mm, but that is much smaller than the stock unit!! I suppose its a $9 donation to the cause... so please don't buy that unit. I ordered the one made for the B-series motors.

The Mugen Fan Switch, on the other hand, fits perfectly. Although its use is limited right now with the stock thermostat... I suppose I'll have to plunge for the 'titanium' Mugen T-stat!!!!

Scalbert: Was the Mugen T-stat diameter the same as the stock unit? The JR one I got was, without exaggerating, HALF the height of the stock unit and 75% the width!

Ah well.... live and learn I suppose!

Engine Temps

I will probably end up getting the Mugen T-Stat... unless I find a stock replacement that's a 175-180 degree version. I think the 160 is going to throw up codes and will harm the motor.

I also just purchased a Hybrid (T3/T4) turbo, a Tial wastegate and a Vortech blow-off valve. Need a few more items such as the FPR and possibly a second in-line pump. The next (and harder) is sizing the car for the intercooler and then the hardest step is the manifold piping and the intercooler piping.

Nevertheless.... It think the car will need 180 degree operating temps once the turbo is on.

allmotor_2000: Yep, the Mugen unit was indentical in every dimension. Oh well, it was worth a try though, time to purchase the gold plated model...

peiqinglong: Everything is fine and the car is acting normal. The temp gauge does ride a little lower but hardly noticeable. The idle temps are averaging around 180 F and crusing temps in the low 170's F.

The warm up is the same as stock, just dosen't go as high.

Do i hear this right? Are you fabricating a turbo for the CL-S? Based on other posts you've had, i doubt you will document everything you do. Because i'd love to fabricate a turbo for this beast too.

Documenting

The problem with documenting this is that its a long and drawn out process... maybe 2-3 months. I am really in no hurry and don't want to spend a fortune either. If I was reading about someone doing something like that... it would be annoying to read a post every month or whatever... with some small update. I'll do a write-up once it is done... there's no point yapping away when its not even started really!

There are a lot of hurdles to overcome...

So.... which model is it again? And does it have that notch on the top because the T-stat only fits ONE way!

By the way... where on earth is the bleed for the cooling system on this car... I must be blind... cuz I had to bleed it the hard way yesterday!

THERMOSTAT
[B-Series Motors] 19301-XGER-0000 $69.00

Yes, there is a peg on the top.

I didn't need to bleed, I just refilled, ran it, cooled and refilled a little.

Bleed

Yes... I checked it this morning and it seemed okay (coolent level, that is). Still wondering where the bleed valve is, though!

Scalbert, are you planning on a dyno anytime soon to get an idea of how much hp you don't lose with the lower cooling temp?

Yes, this will be done within a month. I'm going to unhook the fan switch to get the temps up and make a few pulls and see how much, if any, power is lost.
