Engine Sound in the Speakers

Curious if there is any way to increase the volume of the sound coming through the speaker? Also, has anyone identified the location of the electronic components in the engine bay that produces this sound?

Just poking around to see how this tech can be improved.

It's just fake noise acura recorded and is put out by the sound system. It iis not coming from the engine at all. Not a fan of fake engine noise being pumped into the cabin and not sure why anyone would want more of it. If you want higher volume change out the exhaust and get listen to the real thing.

Damn. Thought at least there was a mic picking up the engine in the engine bay. That sucks if it’s fake noise. Doesn’t sound bad. Considering exhaust but don’t want any drone for my 60 yr old ears

Install a catless secondary downpipe, inexpensive and easy to do. You will love the sound; it’s slightly louder than stock and you won’t even notice it in comfort mode.

Will it pass inspection? That's the key. And do you have a link to one @caLiTLX . You got my intrigued!

I can’t tell you if it would pass inspection. I’m in CA where we have smog checks, stupid I know, but here’s some links:

https://www.imramerica.com/products/...ndary-downpipe

https://www.heeltoeauto.com/front-pi...00018aprp.html

https://www.heeltoeauto.com/front-pi...00018aphf.html

it’s relatively easy to replace this piece under the vehicle; you could even keep your stock one on for inspection and then swap back to this catless option after.

It only sounds good to you in the cabin. Outside, people just hear a normal vehicle driving down the road.

Same. I wish there was some way to disable it. I wonder how it interacts with the audio if you're playing music. Does it blend the sounds together? Turn off the fake engine sound to leave the audio uninterrupted? I'd take noise canceling inside the cabin over noise adding any day of the week.

I swear to god that while inside my garage (with the garage door opened of course), when I have the engine on my Type-S running and I open the driver window, I can definitely hear the (outside) exhaust noise changing tone from light rumbling to a deep loud rumbling especially when I switch Dynamic Mode from Normal to Sport or Sport+.

The exhaust noise is definitely coming out from the exhaust pipes.

Switching to Sport Mode opens the exhaust servo to the second outlet so the sound does change. But it also adds the fake soundtrack inside in Sport and pumps up the volume in Sport+

Are there different levels of the exhaust valve opening? Sport = 1/2 open. Sport+ = FULL open? I have the Type S exhaust, hard-wired open on my TLX ASpect. Just curious if there is a set opening for each of these

Yes there is and thats how it works but I believe its the quietest in Comfort Mode (Fully Closed Valve), Normal Mode (1/4 open) and so on and so Forth. I think its a really neat party trick that was exclusively only on the 2017-2022 NSX iirc

One of my favorite things about the Type-S

The exhaust valves serve more purpose than just for the show of rumbling noise level. The exhaust valves regulate the exhaust gas outflow rate that optimize the torque and horsepower output for the engine.

At low engine rpm, the exhaust valves are closed so there should be minimum exhaust outflow to maximize the low-end engine torque and to shorten the turbo spool up time. But at high engine rpm, the exhaust valves are fully opened in order to allow maximum exhaust outflow to generate peak horsepower and maximum turbo spinning speed.

These valves are controlled by the PCM, and they open and close according to the engine rpm , engine loading, vehicle speed, and various other operating conditions of the engine.

So manual operation of these valves will never get the full benefit as by PCM control.

TOTALLY AGREE with everything you wrote. It would just be fun to turn on/off the valve on demand. I honestly believe with the valves stuck OPEN right now, there is less back pressure and a loss in low-end torque. Car feels slow to accelerate. So I may just close them for now and buy some used Küster actuators when they pop up on eBay.

TypeS is real exhaust noise, unlike the 2.0T. There are mechanical valves in the exhaust tips that change the sound depending what mode you are in. Have someone sit in the cockpit and change the modes and you look inside the exhaust tips...you will see the valves change positions and the sound change

Totally DISAGREE. Sounds like marketing material. Tuned headers are a thing, but by the time you're all the way back at the collectors you're not affecting backpressure in any meaningful way to have an effect on exhaust pulses.

I can concur that the type s exhaust definitely makes some good noises. When I start mine every morning I generally take any trash/recycling out to the cans before getting into the car and that thing is rather loud at first start. I forget if it starts relative to what mode you left it in but I always drive mine in individual mode with everything as sporty as it goes minus the suspension. I put that in the most grandpa setting it will do and it's still plenty firm.

Its quieter if you start it in comfort mode but only if you was in Comfort mode during your last drive before turning it off, any other drive modes and the car will start in what Acura calls it "Exciting Start" mode where it lets the exhaust valves open during the cold start and close once the engine is up to temp.
