difference between 2 ways and component speakers.

What is the difference between 2-way speaks and component speakers. Especially when it comes to sound quality. Would it sound alright it i had all type-r 2 ways or would I need components for good sound quality?

All depends on you, but yes, components naturally sound better than coaxials.

Components have separate tweeters because, well they are component speakers. The speaker system has separate components

The reason they sound better is because the tweeters tend to be better quality because they dont have to be made to fit "inside" a mid ranger speaker. The midrange speaker sounds better because it doesnt have a tweeter protruding from it.

so you haven't quite gotten a true answer here yet... the reason components sound better is because of the external passive crossovers. these pick and choose which frequencies go to each speaker (midbass and tweeter).

your co-axials or 2-way speakers do not have this function, and therefore the frequency separation is left completely up to the speaker itself...

supposedly (i have yet to hear a set-up like this is the only reason i say supposedly) the best sounding set-up is what's called an active front stage. this is where you have a front stage (midbass and tweeter, or a component set) that is pushed by a 4-channel amp, where the processing (deciding which speaker sees which frequency, how much to delay the signal to each speaker because of placement in the car, etc.) is controlled by your head unit.

that being said, i do not have type-r's nor do i particularly like them. i have polk/momo components, and absolutely love the way they sound. a buddy of mine has type-s's in his car, and mine are much clearer at higher volumes than his are...

Type-R Components vs Type-r Co-Axials

I happen to have both these speakers (components in the front and co-axials on the rear deck) in my car and the components are far far superior. The clarity and imaging of the components are so much better than the co-axials that unless I tell people that both are Alpine Type-Rs, they think that the co-axials are a much cheaper set of speakers. I am relatively new to car audio so I cannot compare the Type-Rs to high end stuff like Diamond Audio, Focals, Polk Momo, Type-X, etc. But to me they certainly sound superior to most of the stuff available at an average car audio store such as Kicker, Infinity, Eclipse, etc. Please PM me if you have any specific questions.
