Got nailed by Audi 4 door, thought these were slow

The other day a Blue Audi wanted to mess with my CL-S (stock)so we went at it from about 20 MPH, it pulled real quick, and after about 70 it was maybe 4 cars up.
Wondar what it had, I've easily beaten other Audi 4 doors, this thing was awful quick!

Maybe it was an S4? Those things are fast. Quattro souped up version of the A4. Or maybe it was a 1.8T with turbo upgrade and chipped? Or it could be an A4 on the bottle? Hard to say...

A stock tiptronic Audi S4 will do 0-60 in 5.9 seconds and a quarter mile in 14.6. A lightly modified "chipped" S4 will do 0-60 in 5.4 and a quarter mile in 14.1. A stock 6-speed Audi S4 will do 0-60 in 5.5 seconds and a quarter mile in 14.1. A lightly modified "chipped" S4 will do 0-60 (depending on launch, etc...) in 4.9-5.0 and a quarter mile in 13.4-13.8. Of course, when you start changing piping (downpipes), etc... then you get into the real fun 12-second range. Audi A4 1.8T's when modified can also get some serious power and speed gains... It will take a supercharger to match (of course this is debatable) a stock Audi S4. Of course, it is easier to launch the CL Type S, and driver error can also help any match. Take care, and I hope this helps...

Sorry, I just realized I forgot to differentiate the two "lightly modified-chipped" specs. The first one was for a "chipped tiptronic" and the second was for a "chipped 6-speed."

ten bucks says it was an S4, that blue is the most popular in the S4. no way a A4 woulda beat u, those are not that quick.
S4 0-60- 5.9 or something
A4 0-60- hell of a lot slower than us, 7.5

Actually, a chipped S4 is kicking out somewhere around 300 bhp, install K04's/intercoolers/exhaust/etc and it's closer to 400. Basically, they haul ass!

And the nogaro blue is an awesome color, IMHO. Definitely not for the meek but a hell of a lot better looking than the Laguna Seca Blue (a.k.a. Smurf Blue) on the new E46 M3 YEECH!!!!!!!!!!

You are correct, a "lightly-modified" chipped S4 is putting out 310-320 HP and 360-375 of torque (the range is due to the large number of ECU upgrade tuners available). The U.S. spec S4 is essentially a detuned car waiting for modifications. Their are presently several upgrades possible for the car from here. Ranging from downpipes to new Garrett Ball-Bearing turbos. There are several prototype (read: extreme enthusiasts) Audi S4's out there with these setups cranking in the mid 400 HP range...

Yep - I've never understood personally why VW/Audi uses such an archaic design (K03) on their gas engines yet the oil burners get Garrett VNT units? For that matter, if the damn EPA weren't so draconian, and we had decent fuel over here, then we'd get the fun motors like this too!

(pasted from Audi's world site)

"The V8 TDI is a distinctly sporty turbo diesel engine boasting superb torque, superior efficiency and impressive technological innovations.

The V8 TDI's maximum torque of 480 Nm can be attained even at tachometric readings as low as 1,800 rpm. To assure that the full 165-kW output is transferred to the road whatever the conditions, the A8 3.3 TDI comes with both quattro permanent all-wheel drive and 5-gear tiptronic as standard equipment. With total fuel consumption at 9.7 liters diesel per 100 km (according to 93/116/EG norm) and an action radius of up to 900 km, the A8 3.3 TDI truly deserves the title of long-distance champion.

A gamut of high-tech components shape the power plant of this vehicle into a beautifully balanced dynamic harmony. Common rail technology ensures an even injection pressure over the entire speed range. Two turbochargers with varable turbine geometry (VTG), a water-cooled charge-air intercooler, and electronic engine management assure superb performance and exceptionally high levels of torque. Meanwhile a pre- and main catalytic converter and cooled exhaust gas recirculaton keep the A8 3.3 TDI in conformity with EU 3 emissions norms."

if my math's correct, that's around 354 ft/lbs of torque along with 221 hp (please note how low down & usable that is! ). Plus great mileage and low revs on the Autobahn

I don't think it would take a supercharger, at least not against a tip S4. A stock CL-S is only a couple tenths behind a stock tip and on the roll they're really close (until you get out of 3rd gear on teh CL-S). A simple Comptech header puts the CL-S around 300 hp which ought to put it even or up on a stock tip S4.

6-spd S4 is a whole different story, but a I/H/E CL-S might be close to a stock one.

An A4 with light mods can be very quick. MTM and Tap make ECU's that raise the boost and trim the fuel curve. I think about 30+HP to the wheels before exhaust and filter. Cats kill boost in a turbo car too. Turbo cars from the manufacturer usually have much lower boost then the turbos can push for realiablity. When I pulled some vaccum lines in my supra it put down 350 RWHP when it put down 285 RWHP stock. With a downpipe and cone filter I went to 400 RWHP. The boost stock was 11 PSI and modded it jumped to 18 PSI. I'm gussing a stock A4 is slower then a type-s but with light mods can be made very quick.
Just becasue an A4 looks stock, it could be a sleeper =)

Does this look familiar?

You might have only seen the rear end. Note the red/white emblem on the grill - that means "see you later" (S4 badge)
