even with those mods there is no way that m3 would put 3 cars on a 6 speed cl-s. if the story is true, the cl driver must have missed a shift.

And what about that Web??? guy, he really didn't have anything to say about racing or his own encounters, all he did was bash on Hondas/Acuras, about how he got a lemon car, and therefore all of them are slow and sucks...

That's the guy I really can't stand..... :o

Funny thing is what the guy in the RX-7 has in his sig:

12.6 (Estimated by Petit Racing)

Dude hasn't even taken it to the track yet boasts that number.

I believe the 3 car lengths with those mods. not completely unrealistic. Good story/kill nonetheless. Most of those guys were pretty cool and didn't shit on the CLS. I like when a person can race and win or lose not be an A-hole!

yeah, I just reached my 1000th post!

their resident racer dave(silverstreak) says some e36 m3's do high 13's (bs)?

his wife has an 03 cl-s6 which he took to the track and did a 14.1
he also did a stock s2000 at 13.66

so go figure, racing depends mucho on the driver

Im not condoning what was said(Turborotor) but with his mods he should have no problem with the CL-S. I dont know if you guys are familiar with the E36 M3 but a 95 with the HFM intake and his other mods should be in the ballpark of 240rwhp. As for your friends 97 auto they are much slower and has to be a sedan(only sedans are auto). Between the two cars it would come down to the driver more times than not if you guys run low 14s which i have been seeing. As for the claims of stock M3s in the 13s it is very true and most will run 14.2@ about 98-99 or better with a good driver.

Stock E36 M3's can do 14's flat all day.

I ran a best of 13.9 in mine, with zero mods.

Shit, even Car and Driver and Motor Trend used to get 14.0 out of them.....

I'll just add that the e36 M3 has the highest 1st gear ratio of ANY car ever produced in production. Higher than Ferrari... Anyone.

They're a monster off the line because of this and they only weigh 3100lbs. My buddy has one and I'd think twice about running him in my G for anything other than a beer. And he's had some Dinan work done to it.

Don't the e36s have the same motor in them as the e46s??? Certainly not as tuned as the e46, but...

I certianly think it's possible to see an e36 M3 put some distance on a CLS6spd...

Sorry...

Just my $0.02...

E36-240hp, in Europe, they got a 319hp version, ours was de-tuned to cut costs (remember, an E36 M3 was only 35k!!!)

E46-333hp
Depends on the year. For a 99 M3, you were looking at about $42K with a few options.

e36 M3 = 3175 lbs.
CLS 6spd = 3446 lbs.

271lbs...

Quite a difference.

Secondly...

When I said "some distance" I meant a car length. Not a football field. Maybe I should have spelled it out for you.

I'm not sure why people here think the e36 is a slouch. It's not. Its got the gearing, isn't nearly as porky as the CLS6spd. Oh and it has RWD... That usually helps.

The original argument was that an e36 put 3+ car lengths on a CLS6spd. I don't know if I buy that, but I certainly would buy in on it beating a CLS6spd.

first of all one of my boys has a 99 M3 5 speed and even he told me that there is no way that it runs 14 flat stock...hes an awesome driver but even he can admit to that. i can see a 6speed cl-s taking a stock e36 and that guys story about 3-4 car lenths is bullshit!

i have to agree with you on the fishy part. there seems to a huge inconsistancy to the performance of the 95-97m3 some are fast some are not. i've tested this theory many times before i bought my cl-s 6spd/navi. i had an 01 toy celica GTS 6spd w/ injen intake and jardine exhuast. just coming off the light i hit it pretty good not seeing the beemer yet he roles up beside me so i drop it in second at about 45mph we both boned out. if youv'e ever driven a new celica gts you know how ballistic it is when the vvti-l (toy. version of vtec)kicks in. anyways he was probably surprised when he didn't pull away from me. i know from a dead stop the beemer would have got the jump on me. the celica didn't make any pwr til 6000rpms. the point is I know my cl-s would spank the heck out of the celica i used to have if that's any indication.

finally, someone thats not in fantasy world.. believe what you will, but 99% of the e36's out there WILL NOT run anywhere near 14 secs period. of most e36's i've seen at the track they're all runnin high 14's. you can go ahead and say that every single one of these drivers don't know how to drve if you'd like. but thats my experiences with them.
