Break-in period

How do you know if you properly 'broke-in' your car?

1. I have 300 miles on the odometer
2. I revved up to 5000 rpms once or twice (accidently)
3. Drove on the highway and hit 80 mph- quickly brought it back to 65-70. (Can't tell you're goin' that fast!)

Should I be concerned about #2 and #3??

I say no. When I bought my 98 Accord coupe V6, I ran from day one and she has 104,000 miles and runs superb ! Just change your oil every 3K or 5K with Synthetic and you'll be fine. Enjoy the VTEC !

You're ok. Until 600 miles hits just make sure you vary up your RPMs, don't overrev (5k+ rpms) and go easy on your brakes.

After that, zoom zoom.

You'll be fine. Some people race their cars from day one without any issues. That being said, I'd be easy on it for the break-in period (600 miles) and keep out of VTEC (shift below 4000 RPM). After that you can do what you want, but I still babied mine for another thousand miles or so and gently went higher into the RPM band as the weeks went by.

And, by the way,

(I'm always trying to find a reason to use that smiley!)

I just passed my break-in period. It seemed to take forever. It was really hard to drive it slow. I even gunned it once or twice, but now it's so cool and fast.

My dealer told me to break it in like I was going to drive it, but just don't go crazy. I took the car to 6K three times(once was on the test drive) and I now have 800 miles on the car. I usually shift at 3K and I am easy on the brakes, till I get a 1500-2000 miles on it anyway.

dont worry about high engine reving. These engines are made from racing technology. The only thing i would avoid would be useing the cruise control. Make sure the engine gets to rev in the entire pwr band.

Peace!

i bought my 2002 CL-S brand new in feb 2002 with 250 miles on the odometer (it was driven by a dealer rep from boston to NY as part of a dealer swap...and i got a hell of a deal on it.) i NEVER babied that thing..on the drive home, the first night, i floored it multiple times, had a good time, enjoyed my car. had the car only had 1 mile on it, i wouldve been more careful, but considering the high degree of engineering and high quality of parts and manufacturing involved in new cars, 600 miles is S T R E T C H I N G it as a needed break in period for the new motor....250 is PLENTY.

my car ran like a dream for as long as i had it, not to mention it was one of the quickest documented CL-S STOCK and one of the quickest documented CL-S to have ONLY headers as the sole performance mod.

break in is over rated, dont sweat it....anything over 200-250 miles and your gold. enjoy the car.

not to mention...god forbid something goes wrong with the motor...the chance of which is INCREDIBLY small...its under warranty....there is no way for a dealer to prove you babied the car to EXACTLY 600 miles on the odometer.

dont sweat it.

I would go easy on the brakes for the first couple hundred. The discs and pads do need to cut in gradually.
