AW Headers and Emissions

Just wanted to let everyone know that I passed the Illinois emissions test with the AW headers and the icebox. Some people were concerned about this.

Allmotor told us a while back that the headers have nothing to do with emissions.

How can you pass with the AW headers? Don't they need to be CARB approved no matter what? (for Cali peeps)

The O2 sensor is screwed into the headers and I know that there have been little problems with the sensor touching the oil pan.

Just wanted to let everyone know.

Headers shouldn't effect your actual emissions at all. If your O2 sensor bung is touching the oil pan and the wires get fried or burnt, then you'll trip a check engine light and potentially cause the ECU to go into limp mode which will effect your emissions and cause you to fail your emissions inspection (for most states you cannot have a check engine light on for emissions inspection).

In CA and other states that require a CARB sticker for any aftermarket parts you install, only the Comptechs will let you pass. But, in terms of your actual emissions the headers won't effect those ... unless of course you've got defective headers where the O2 sensor bung is touching the oil pan or you've got an exhaust leak.
