TSX Ezpass problem

Hi everyone. Just picked up an Acura TSX about a week ago, and I've noticed a strange problem with my Ezpass tag and wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue.

The tag was working fine in my old car, but when I put it up on my windshield, it hasn't been getting read as I go through tolls. First I had put it behind the left hand side of the rear-view mirror, just as it had been in my other car. No good. Then i moved it to the passenger side, near the top of the windshield, no good. Then the other side of the rear-view mirror, no good.

It does work if I hold it up in my hand in front of me as I go through the toll lanes.

I have noticed the black/spotted areas around the top/sides of the windshield, as well as around where the rear-view mirror attaches to the window. Could those areas have some sort of interference effect?

Has anyone else heard of this type of problem? I know that anyday now I'm going to get 20 violations in the mail!

I searched the TSX forums first, but couldn't find anything related to this issue.

I would appreciate any help or suggestions!

Maybe yhe battery in your EZpass needs to be replaced. I have been told that the night adjusting rearview mirrors like in the TSX can cause EZ pass batteries to drain. No problem ith mine either - behind and to the left of the mirror.

The transponder batteries have a life span of approx 7 years. I've only had this tag for about 4. It was working fine until I put it in my new TSX 10 days ago. I'm not sure how the mirror could interfere....but then again something is going on...

Well, I've had Acura send me a new tag...twice since my last post. I continue to have problems going through the tolls. It seems to work if I go through at 2 mph...which is awful. I've even put the tags in another car and haven't had the same problem.

The Ezpass website says "Windshields with solar ray glass, solar tint, heated or heat reflective windshields, and insulated or Insta-Clear glass may also prevent the tag from being read properly."

http://www.ezpass.com/static/info/exteriortags.shtml

Does the TSX have any of those?

I can't be the only one having this problem...

I'm guess it's a transponder for toll just like our 407.

You may be the only one. I've had mine right behind the rearview for a year now. I've never had a problem.

Hmm.. afraid you are. I have an EZ-Pass (well in CA its called FastTrak but its the same thing) Tag here in California for our tollways and have had it in place for over 2 years now exactly behind my rear-view mirror with no problems.

Sorry I can't help any further.
