Right rear shock needs replacing....

Ufortunately I've notice over the past few thousand miles a squeaking coming from my right rear shock when going over speed bumps. At first I thought it was just all the crap I had in the trunk but unfortunately it seems like the shock is pretty much toast.

I'm thinking it might be a good opportunity to upgrade to the a-spec package -- anyone know of any good deals or groubbuys on it right now?

check Acura of Escondido on e-bay. When I price things they usually are the lowest cost provider. And, they are really good to deal with.

Check the black market section. And definitely look at Acura of Escondido like Jlukja mentions. I think they are based out of Washington, so you won't get charged sales tax.

...or you could just say forget the aspec and get a reflash

LOL, Kenny, AofE is in Escondido, about a half hour drive north of San Diego on I-15.

I'll have to double check that it isnt' something like the endlink on the right rear side being broken; which just occursed to me. I'd assumed it was the shock.

What's the best way to test that the shock is, in fact, the culprit?

The old way of bouncing the car up and down doesn't seem to work with the newer stiffer suspension. The easiest way is to check for oil leak around the shock. However, if the shock is simply worn out, you might not see oil leak. Then the next step is to remove the entire assembly and inspect the compression and rebound strokes of the piston shaft for smooth operation (without the spring).

I noticed oil leaking out of my wife's Civic's driverside front strut. When I had to replace the front struts (always replace as a set), it was a freakin mess and you could easily tell that the strut had failed aside from the oil. The strut rod wouldn't even hold up under its own weight.

What's up with the new Avatar JTso??

I had a similar problem (probably induced from aftermarket springs) where my right passenger shock would squeek. It sounded like a bird chirping, I ignored it for a while by playing music louder and it eventually went away, maybe it was the weather

I'm going to check it out this weekend and see if there is any oil and that my endlink is still in tact.
