Side Windows Rattling/Crackling

I know there's a bunch of different rattles out there, and I know this one has been addressed somewhere. My driver and passenger side (front only) windows rattle like crazy. The driver's side is the worst. It sounds like someone is crinkling paper, and it just doesn't stop.

The "tap down" (on the window down button) technique works a little, but not enough to satisfy my sanity. So...I'm taking it in to the dealer in a couple of weeks.

Has anyone been able to get this one fixed??? Or am I wasting my time. I sense I'm wasting my time, but trust the group's expertise.

Please try to keep this thread specific to this problem as I (most all of us) have other noises - door locks buzzing, etc that I'd like to avoid getting into so that the thread stays specific to this one problem.

Thanks.

Hi - I have what sounds like the same problem - it's a sqeaking/rubbing noise coming from the top of the window. Sounds like window is rubbing against the seal. Its there on both front windows, but the drivers side is the worst.

This started happening about 2 weeks after I got the car. I have about 4,500 km's on the car, and wasn't going to bother to take it in to the dealer until the first service at 8,000 km, which wont be for another couple of months.

If you have any luck with a fix I would love to hear it!!

This will, like most other rattles in the car probly not be fixed by the dealer. Why not try applying a rubber treatment to the area the window makes contact with. To perhaps soften it up. I've noticed what may be the same problem but only very periodically and only when going over larger bumps in the road.

Tried it already. Didn't work. Wound up making the window all greasy instead. Nothing better than a greasy window that still rattles.

I get the window rubbing sound when I employ the Tap Down method to stop the door lock buzzing. So it's a tradeoff, depending on what type of road I'm on. It almost makes me feel better knowing I can at least control which annoying noise I have to hear.

But when I've got the window tapped down, it makes a nasty noise when I shut the door, so I mostly keep it in doorlock buzzing mode.

Just found out if I lower my driver's window all the way to the bottom, and I close the door, the glass rattle in there. If I just let the window up a little bit, when I can see the glass, and I shut the door, it sound ok.

I also try the passenger side's window, does not have this problem. Both back seats window do not go down all the way, seems not to have this issue too.

Anyone have similar experience or this is normal?

I think I have the same problem as you. I can only really hear it when things are quiet (so driving slowly with little or no traffic around). Its like a low rumbling or rattling. It sounds like the window is loose so I think its something the dealer can probably fix. I will find out soon enough.

I heard my first rattle when it was cold the other morning. I get a clicking noise from the passenger side windshield. The noise happens only when I hit a bump on that side. The noise hasn't stopped since, I only have 1500 miles.

I am surprised that my TSX rattles and vibrates more than my 12 year old Honda Accord sedan. Everytime I take it to the dealer to get the rattling checked/fixed it would always come back after i leave the Acura dealer. Also, my drivers seat makes a thump noise everytime i press the brakes, it feels like the seat is off the rail or something.

Same window problem. I took to the dealer about 1/2 hour ago. Told them about it and the speaker rattle. Told me they are aware of the speaker rattle and will look at the window rattle. We'll see what they say.

Yes, please do, because my dealer down here insists my speakers are in spec. If I can have him now look at the window and lock maybe I can get rid of this damned noise!

I'm getting the impression that there will be cases where the TSX is "in spec," and still making annoying sounds.

I've been to the dealer 5 times now (yes, literally), specifically for rattles and other noises, and they do their best, but at the end of the day, there are some problems that the dealer can't fix because the noisy parts conform to spec. The buzzing from my steering column is an example, where modification could cause malfunction of the airbag.

Maybe that's the drawback of a beautifully quiet cabin, while still being on the lower end of the "luxury" spectrum

Well my car is back home from the dealer, and they said the window rattle on the driver side is caused by the window tinting people incorrectly doing something. Is this a bunch of crap? I had to have my father pick up the car because I am in Phoenix until Wednesday, but should I check with the tinting people or the dealer? The rattles did start soon after the windows were tinted, so I can't really rule out that it is the problem. I really hope this doesn't become one of those problems where both sides blame each other and it never gets fixed.

I probably will try the fix when I get home, but if this really does have to be redone every few weeks, I personally don't find that acceptable. If the fix is semi-permanent, I'll be cool with that. Thanks for the info fdl.

I think what junk is talking about is a little different than what I found. The rattles is actually coming from where the seal touches the metal, not the glass. So because this area is not affected by the opening and closing of the window, it may last a lot longer, if not forever . I can tell you that my moonroof has been rattle free for over a month by using this method.

Just make sure you peel back the seal and rub it down where it touches the metal.

It is a bunch of crap because I have the same problems and I don't have window tinting.

This has also happened to my car recently. When all windows are up, you can hear some sort of creaking noise or rubbing noise near the top of the windows (both driver-side and passenger). Don't know if it's the window itself against rubber or the metal on the door against rubber. The sound sort of goes away when you lower the windows down a bit. Has anyone taken it back to the dealership and had them successfully diagnose it?

I had a window rattle fixed... but it turns out the idiot techs fucked up the inside weather stripping behind the door panel. This is the third rattle I have fixed.

What did the techs do to fix it, if you don't mind sharing?

Strifez, read my posts above. The fix for this rattle is something you can easily do yourself. Worked like a charm for me. If you are frustrated with your dealer it might be worth a shot to save you some hassle.

I tried your fix and it's been working so far. Have you had to reapply 303 ever since the first time you did it or does it lasts pretty long? Thanks for your help.
