Exclamation Ran over object in road - now getting battery, brake, vsa, abs, emissions warnings!

So, I was behind a semi, went to pass (interstate) and as soon as I went to switch lanes I nailed a dead friggin dog laying on the line between lanes that I couldnt see...

I ran over it right of center all the way the length of the car... I can see by the hair on the exhaust front to back...

The car didn't die but wouldnt accelerate, just slowed down to a crawl over several hundred yards... So I pulled in the emergency lane and let it idle... idled fine but wouldnt rev up... Turned off and back on and all is well other than a billion warnings on the dash.

No body damage, just yanked the plastic around under the car a smidge and pulled off the piece that covers the oil drain plug... It also pulled the rear o2 sensor plug off leaving wires. So the emissions warning light I understand...

All the rest, ABS, VSA, BATTERY, CHECK BRAKES... I don't understand those?

Engine runs fine. Accessory belt is fine. AC works, alternator is spinning but evidentally not charging the battery as shown by the battery light on the dash and tested with a volt meter...

The charging issues is the biggest one...

Anyone have any idea what the hell it smacked loose?

The front or rear O2 sensor wiring might be damaged from the contact, shorting out the electrical system.

I fixed the rear o2 wiring and still getting same warnings... Battery voltage stays at 11.60 while running the past 15 min i have let it run.

Ok, so battery voltage dropped down to 9V so I guess I am not getting juice from the alternator... I used battery ground and then checked voltage at the alt with the wire covered with a black boot and am getting 7v at the alt...

Odd...

I looked all underneath the front of the vehicle and see no noticible damage.. just the rear o2 harness that was yanked off which I spliced back together... I wouldnt think shorting out the rear 02 would cause all this, right?

Any ideas what is freaking this thing out?

Is the belt still intact and spinning the alternator pulley?

Since you fixed the wiring, I would start looking for a blown fuse.

Call insurance company. Just say the vehicle in front of you was an 18 wheeler and it had more ground clearance. By the time you saw the object it was too late to maneuver while doing 70mph. Let them settle the damages with ACURA/HONDA.

That is unless you like playing detective... I would pick up a scan gauge and see if/what codes the engine is throwing.

I have a $500 deductible on insurrance so not too interested in turning this in unless it becomes a large issue...

I guess I will start testing fuses for continuity when I get back home, you'd think a blown fuse wouldnt cause this flurry of codes though. Quite a head scratcher...

I am thinking maybe 12v from heater wires hit signal wire and might have flipped out the ecu? Nothing else is making much sense... Anyone else have any other thoughts? This is a hondata flashed ecu so that complicates things, fxck.

p0443 - Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit
p0141 - o2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1, Sensor 2)
p0340 - Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction

Those are the codes that I pull off the ECU after a reset and repopulate... odd, huh?

Hondata was nice enough to say I could get a new ECU and pay them again to get it reflashed... Never though of that, heh.

Testing the alt with body/engine ground and checking voltage at the alt under the black boot I get 7 to 11V at different times I check... Sound like the alt got zapped somehow? Maybe that's what is wrong with everything else as well (they all got shorted)? not sure how. Or maybe the grounding is messed up?

Regardless of the other wiring related to the alt... if the pulley is spinning I should be seeing fairly steady 13'ish V under the black boot, right?

The rear 02 wires are all that I can see that were ripped or undone... Checked most fuses under the hood that made sense to check and all are fine...

#18 fuse under the dash was blown... caused ALL of these issues besides the o2 code which was a bad sensor from shorting out. Odd. But fixed thanks to the good ol FSM.

Nice, good job.

I'm sure you did it much cheaper than the stealership would have.

Nicely done...I don't consider the fuse to cause alternator issue, but there it is in the service manual, fuse #18 lists alternator first...
