Keyless Entry Beep, Maint Light

Hi all, I'm new here and have a couple questions on my '05 TSX. I tried searching with no results. I just got the car back from the dealer and now when I press the keyless entry remote's lock button twice the car does not beep any longer. Just flashes the turn signals. Is there a way to turn that beep back on?

Also, I know there is a way to reset the "Maint Req'd" light on the dash, but I cannot remember it to save my life. Anyone know how to do this? I really appreciate everyones input.

Great website!

I'll assume you don't have the owner's manual as it is in there to reset the maintenance light, but we carry them in our FAQ section in .pdf format.

Turn off the engine.
Press and hold the Select/Reset
knob in the instrument panel, then
turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
Hold the knob for about ten seconds
until the indicator resets.

I have less advice about the horn not beeping, but I'll move to the Problem/Fixes section.

Test your horn, just in case it isn't working on its own. If it works but the beep doesn't happen when you ock the doors (two presses), I can't help you. Maybe call the dealer you took it to and they can tell you how to turn it back on over the phone...?

Isn't the horn beep a setting in the MID? I could have sworn I've read that it is but as I have '04 with no MID, I don't have any first hand experience.

OP has an 05, so no MID. On MID equipped years, it is an option. Also, I thought the alarm beep was an actual beep, not a horn honk on all but the 04s. Am I incorrect there?

Yes the 05's have a Beep sound, like all toyota's do when you lock/unlock the doors.
It sounds like a setting that needs to be programmed by the dealer (and also since they disabled it). I say go back and tell them its not working.

Is there a way to install the beep on 04's?

Yeah, I already called them and of course they did nothing. I just explained to them that WAS working when I dropped the car off, the car is an '05 it beeps, not honks. They said they will have a look at it. Its just weird that someone would jack with it when you take the car in for service.

I think I read somewhere that the beep actually is made by the horn.

The beep indicates that the security system is set. If you remotely lock with the trunk ajar, the lights will blink, the doors lock, but you'll never get the beep. (At least, it behaves this way on my 2006.) So I'm suspecting that a switch in a door or trunk (more likely) is not contacting...

XCNova, you didn't mention what maint. was done, that is an important clue. They might've disconnected something and forgotten to reconnect....

If he had a bad closed switch, it would have shown up as an open door or trunk lid on the dash when he took it home. I doubt that's the case. More than likely a setting, but can't be sure. The 04/05 didn't have any real preferences accessible to the driver, did they?

The car was taken in to have a look at the A/C coolant as I suspected it was leaking somewhere in the line. They found "A" leak, not sure where it was though. They did not elaborate on that part. I have an appt on Tues next week with the dealer so they can have a look at it again, he says they will fix it. I'm pretty sure they messed with the bumper b/c the A/C lines go behind it in some places.....

I've had the same problem for about a year now. I've located the problem, but I can't seem to fix it.. it doesn't bother me so much though.

The "Beep"er is on top of your left wheel. The wire is extended from near the bottom of your battery, you've got to snake the plug somehow to the beeper through the frame, and plug it in. I just can't seem to fix it since there doesn't seem to be a way for the wire to be long enough to snake through, and plug in. It's about 1inch too short.

If I made any sense at all, I hope I did.. I'm gonna run downstairs and take a pic. Don't have a jack right now so it might be hard to get a pic of the beeper. Tiretuck

No fender liner ftw

This wire:

Into the "beeper"

You can see where the plug goes in this pic, just under my misplaced red arrow

If you find a way to do it w/o having to extend the wire, please share

Relocate the beeper? Looks like it could fit anywhere. Or ... is the plug-in on the forward side of the beeper where you drew a red arrow? Maybe the beeper can be installed 180° around? (Long shot, but I thought I'd take a shot.)

Awesome, I don't know why I didn't think of something so simple.
Ran down to take a look at it after you suggested. It looks like the "beeper" is secured by just two self tapping screws, so yeah, it should be able to be relocated easily.

Still lazy to do it thoug haha, gotta take off the wheel .. drive up on a 2x4 to jack it up
