2006 TSX - replacing front brakes
2006 TSX - replacing front brakes
So It's about that time, around 50,000 miles, my front brakes need replacing. The rears went first for some reason, at around 35,000 miles. We all thought that was odd.
Anyways - I called a few places in Hoboken NJ and got a price of $420 for pads, rotors and labor from one garage and $281.49 from another garage.
I'm probably just gonna go back to my mechanic in PA and have him do it for closer to $200ish.
But anyways - anything I should think about as far as getting different types of brakes/rotors? Or just go with the original equipment.
thanks!

i've never done that. is it something i should do myself - or just ask the mechanic to do it when i have him do my front brakes?
IMO, you should upgrade em all around. I'm not an expert, but I think the rotors are complete crap. I'd upgrade the rotors and the pads to some high quality ceramics at the same time. If you're able to do it yourself, you can save yourself some cash.
I upgraded my pads, rotors, and brake lines, along with a brake fluild flush. I couldn't be happier. I'm especially happy with the Akebono ProAct pads that I have on now. They are great for daily use.

I do mostly highway driving so my brakes are still excellant after almost 69,000 miles. Still with the original brake fluid-not 3 years old yet. You must use your brakes alot considering where you live.

Im in the army and stationed in Germany. I have my TSX 07 with 30,000 on it. I just changed out my pads cause I drive on the autobahn alot. I knew my pads needed to go because I know my cars stoping power. I changed them out myself and now I am back to where I was. I would change them. It is so EZ if you can find someone to show you how to do it. The rear pads was alittle tricky but I did the front in under 5 Mins.
LOL wow....... I guess that's about what they charge for that kinda stuff....
I recently went to get my brakes checked due to massive vibrations during braking and found out all 4 of my brakes were warped. Anyway, yeah they quoted me about $400 to fix the 4 rotors and put in new rear pads...... at only about 25,000 miles too =(
Anyway, from advice of this board, ended up putting in RacingBrake rotors/pads from Mr. HeelToe. So far, they rock
F+R rotors + pads = $540ish

The one thing you need to consider is the fluid in the abs modulator. You probably won't be able to clean that out unless you drain the fluid once, then take the car on a gravel road to kick on the abs a few times and then do another drain and fill. It may be worth having the dealer do it unless you like doing this.
Is the ABS circuit normally open or normally closed? I need to flush my fluid this spring and was planning on using my mighty vac with the idea this would pull all of the fluid through. Will this approach not work due to the ABS circuitry?
The only other way to flush the fluid is the way that I mentioned in my earlier post.
So I guess that means it's a normally closed circuit. Damn. I neither want to buy that tool or pay for the dealership to flush my brakes. Though they're probably about the same price. I'll probably just not do that part. I wonder how much fluid is held in the ABS circuits. The intentionally activating the ABS over and over again then changing the fluid again sounds like a huge pain in the ass.
What to do, what to do.
What to do, what to do.
wow really? i could easily come to philly - but i already had it done. let me know the contact info for future reference though and I'll definitely consider. my sister lives in KOP so it'd be easy to get down there for the work.
