just venting - tranny repair

Just wanting to share with fellow members. My/son's 1999 Prelude auto is making a sound which seems to be coming from tranny. Service adviser said possible TC bearing. THis car has been babied/well cared for. Tranny flush every 15K or less with Honda fluid (book says 30K but the sportshift trannies needed more often). Now I am waiting for service guy to call me back with quote for a remanuf. Honda tranny. Should I call the CS number and begin a case? I don't feel that I should have experienced a problem already when you take into account the care. My 1998 Accord tranny had to be replaced @70K but my extended warranty took care of that. Paper work said tranny was $750 part. Could I be so lucky with this tranny? I even had a 5yr/100K (Honda) warranty on the Prelude which I could sure use now. I think I will plead my case with Honda. Thanks for listening.

'00-'01 Preludes are under a 7yr/100K warranty extension for the AT. Don't know how many miles are on your '99 but if you're under 7yr/100k and if the dealer's Honda District Rep. is feeling helpful you might have a chance of at least having Honda split the repair with you. A call to Honda's Customer Relations can't hurt, or ask the dealer's S/Manager to contact the Honda District Rep. on your behalf.

Thanks for you help - the '99 Prelude has 800xx miles on it. I will try my luck with Honda.

BTW, Honda will replace tranny but I will need to pay labor. More than fair I believe.

Good news. Did they estimate what the labor would come to?

Honda is known to have weak trannys..... I had a 98 accord that I had to replaced the the tranny myself. It cost my $2k part+labor (the car is out of warranty)

My TSX just had the tranny replaced under warranty. But with all that, I still love their product.....

And the tranny cost that much at dealer.......
$1.5k for rebuilt tranny....

Glad Honda replaced your prelude tranny..... $600 is reasonable price to pay for a tranny+labor...
