Fuse Keeps Blowing

The "accessories" fuse keeps blowing on my 05 TSX. This is the fuse that powers the two power outlets - the one in the front center compartment beneath the navigation system and the one inside the center console. At times the fuse will last two or three days; however, at other times, the fuse will blow as soon as I start the car after replacing the fuse. Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone have any idea what is causing this issue? This happens even when there is nothing plugged into either outlet.

Well, what's blowing the fuse is current draw above rating...but enough about the obvious.

We are talking about undeer dash fuse box fuse 9, 15A, correct?

It's most likely an intermittent short, and the question is did or do either of those outlets get a lot of use? It's possible the fault is in the outlet, the connection, or the harness.

Since removal/disconnecting of the rear socket involves removal of the front socket, the easiest quick check (after visual inspection of the actual sockets) is to remove the center console. The good news is switching on with this removed doesn't set any codes as the only disconnected items are the sockets, seat heaters, and pocket light. Then try switching on, and if it doesn't blow, starting and driving a bit. No blow, connect one of thesockets back up, same test. No blow, disconnect and connect the other socket, same test. No blow, connect both, same test. That should narrow down your problem area.

Me, I figure the most used socket has gone bad because a contact has deformed.

P.S. Forgot possiblity of a poor ground...unlikely to blow a fuse, but possible. However, given the grounds in use, unless you see a multitude of other little items happening a little off, it's very unlikely.

Having the same problem. Have had a SendStation ipod charger/audio plugged into the armrest near constantly (charger fuses at 2A), but recently plugged a Gtech Pro FANATIC data device (adapter fuses at 1A, recently burned out and replaced by manufacturer) into the forward plug, and have had two 15A fuses (position 9, passenger compartment fuse box) blow. Doesn't happen with the same two items plugged in and running on ACC, but the second one blew this morning after starting up. Grrrrr. Hate to have to tear up the console 1 week after passing 100,000 miles (extended warranty expired last month).

Have ordered a bag of 15A fuses to test further (see if it's a plug, see if it's an adapter).

Will keep this thread posted.... (OP, did you ever resolve your problem?)

Mystery solved (Dept of Old Lessons, Relearned):

Examination of one of the power adapters, disassembled, shows scoring between the tip (which sits on the glass fuse and gets pushed into the power plug) and one of the side contacts (inside the adapter). Sure enough, with the tip fully depressed, the tip and outer flanges short out.

For others stumbling upon this thread, who have a fuse habitually blowing, before you pull apart your car, examine the power plugs of your accessories' chargers/adapters ... very closely. So many of these are so cheap it's a wonder they don't melt down in your car.
