bumper removal question

I can't find directions anywhere on the web for removing the bumper of an 06 TSX. I can't find any on this forum either. I looked for an hour. Its not in the owner's manual either.

I do have directions on how to remove the 04 bumper, but that's not like my 06. I don't know if the screws/bolts are the same in number and location.

So does anyone have a diagram, instructions, or a link for removing the bumper of an 06?

Update:

Actually, I just need to know where all the screws/bolts/clips are. I need some kind of diagram. At least tell me how many there are (exactly, not about how many). The 04 instructions I tried to use are insufficient to know where the bolts are on an 06 (duh, I should have guessed).

Just take off the ones you can see and figure out where it's stuck from there. That's what I would do anyway. Instructions are for the weak, hehehe.

Oh, and throw a drop cloth or blanket down before you take it off so it doesn't get scratched up on the ground.

If you can't figure this out on your own, you should buy the Service Manual. It will show you all you want to know.

I appreciate your input, but I need someone who has taken the bumper off themselves many times to help me here. Have you taken your bumper off several times? I REALLY need you to have done it in order for me to take your advice. I'm just being extremely cautious because we're talking lots of money worth of damage if I mess something up. I can't improvise like you're saying.

Anyway, instructions are smart in my book. They will stop you from damaging your bumper.

Here's my question: after getting the screws/bolts/clips off, what kind of wiring is connected? If the bumper falls after the screws are out, will it pull the wiring? How much slack do the wires that attach the bumper to the rest of the car have?

In other words, what are the common dangers of this? Specifically, what kind of care needs to be taken with what parts of the bumper while removing?

the fog lights are the only thing actually wired to the bumper cover itself.
as far as I'm aware anyway...

so I don't do this often at all, but I'm feeling nice today:

I was joking about the instructions bit. Honestly though, it'd be pretty hard mess anything up in the process. Just take your time. The worst that could happen is that you scratch the bumper which is why I suggested putting down a blanket or something. I tear into stuff all the time without really knowing what I'm doing. It's not terribly difficult. Just take your time and don't force anything that doesn't want to go. There's no reason to be afraid of it.

i've removed my bumper several times. unfortunately, i can't remember exact numbers. as other have said, take your time. its not terribly difficult. just be careful about yanking the bumper off because as MMsTSX said, the OEM fogs are attached to the bumper...

off the top of my head tho, there are at least 6 pop clips on top that hold the upper part/grille/radiator cover. there are at least 4 pop clips underneath, 4 screws underneath, and at least 1 screw/1 pop clip on the front fender well. i used separate cups to hold everything so i know where everything went...

Thank you guys much

special thanks to MMsTSX for posting the picture... it is exactly what I needed. Is that a page from the service manual?

I aborted today half way though because of the cold, but I broke two of those plastic squeeze-clips on the radiator cover. I wasn't every prying hard... the plastic was brittle or something. But when I broke the second one, a piece of the clip flew up in the air and landed in the guts under the hood. I wasn't happy about this at all. I would recommend putting a towel over the clips while prying. Anyway, I found the piece under the car meaning it didn't land on anything important. But I'm worried about the chance that maybe a second piece could have also landed somewhere. I know that wouldn't be good at all, but what kind of damage could that cause?

The trick with those clips is that you have to pop the middle part up before you can remove the whole thing. The middle part goes down inside the clip and forces the outer part to expand. If you get one out intact you'll understand how they work very quickly. They will definitely be brittle and more easily broken in the cold though. I've seen lots of like a dozen or so on ebay for like 10 bucks if you need some spares.

As far as the pieces flying into the engine bay, unless you've got caps or covers off of things, there's really nothing to worry about. Little pebbles and other road debris gets up in there from below all the time.

yes, from my service manual.

and like said above, don't worry at all about little things dropping
in the engine bay, little rocks and stuff get in there all the time.
and I suggest buying about 100 of those extra clips just for the sake of
having them, they break all the damn time.

there is a special set of tools for removing them as well that I use.
they are far superior to using just a screwdriver or whatever.

^most all mechanics also use these tools.
they dramatically cut down on the broken clip issue, but nothing can eliminate it.

Where did you find those pliers? I hate trying to get those clips out without breaking them. Half the time they break when you do it right anyway. Do you know a good place to get them cheap? The cheapest I've seen is around $1/piece and that's still a total rip off.

I waited and waited until a set of them came up for sale on ebay.
I first checked all local autoparts stores, but none had them.
most of the guys didn't even know what the hell I was looking for.
it was listed on ebay as: 3pc. Body Clip Removal Kit, I don't see any on
there right now for sale.

as for the clips, nope, I haven't looked around for them yet. I have 3
Euro-R grilles, and they all came with clips, which has been plenty to hold
me over for now. I probably would end up just trying to find them on
a parts website and order them from there. our car takes at least 3 different
kinds of clips, and I would personally want to keep the right kind in the
right hole, so I'd want to order them from honda. $1 is outrageous though...
if I do find something though, I'll report it here.

well, this doesn't look so bad:

This place would be closer to you.

This was years ago, but I found a local auto manufacturer that made OEM fasteners for Honda here in SoCal, so I bought clips/fasteners in bulk. It's nice having spare fasteners so it doesn't drive you nuts if you break things.

Nice. I might have to pick one of those up just to have on hand.

Three packs? Man you must fuss around with your car on a daily basis.
