Battery Replacement - Reset window auto up/down

I'm not clear on whether the power window control unit needs to be reset after replacing the battery. Does anybody know the answer to this. The service manual seems to indicate not, but in the navi section it talks about resetting the power window after disconnecting the battery. Apparently the reset enables the drivers side auto up and down feature.

thanks

well, I certainly didn't have anything like that. That would be stupid because they disconnect the batter all the time for service.

When I disconnected my battery, then reconnected, it didn't have an effect on my auto up and down feature.

Pacman,

Thanks for your reply. I will go ahead and replace and see what happens. Looks like only a dealer can do the power window reset.

you can reset it yourself....

(i replaced the battery the other night on my 04 and had to reset the auto-up)

1) turn car on
2) roll drivers window down all the way
3) roll window up and keep holding the button in the up position for 2-3 seconds after the window is all the way up

there you go. auto-up/down works again.

I'm going to retitle this thread b/c it really has nothing to do with actually replacing the battery, but focuses on the auto up/down reset

I'm so glad I just found this thread, beacuse my problem is now gone. Saving a trip to the dealer for little garbage like this is priceless. Redline's info worked like a charm.

My window was frozen from the outside, must've happened after the rain we got here. I think I might have held the drivers window button down for a couple of seconds trying to get the window down. After I finally got the window down the auto feature stopped working. I thought the switch went bad or something.

But luckily, not the case...all better now

Thats good info. Although I have disconnected my battery before without this issue.

I'm surprised to read of this issue too. I've replaced the battery in the 05 and 07 and didn't have to reset anything accept the clock.

+1-only had to put the codes for the radio and nav so I did not have to reset the clock either

It may have something to do with the way I jump started the car when the battery was drained... the jump start didn't work well for the 1st & 2nd time. I had to wait for the battery to charge a bit and try it the 3rd time, which started the engine but all the warning lights were on afterwards.... I replaced the battery 3 times and this is the first time I had to reset the windows.

Thanks for this. Had a battery replaced and needed to have windows reprogrammed by dealer (auto up/down didn't work for the rear windows). Cost me $65. The battery needed to be replaced after only a few months, because it was defective, and the same thing happened costing me another $65.
