I've tried replacing the power steering pump on my TSX with 186k miles on it. I've gone thru 3 pumps Two of them were remanufactured pumps from Autozone, one was a new pump from rock auto. All three times I installed the new pump and turned the car on, the steering is stiff AF. Then took out the new pump, installed the old one back in, power steering works. Do I have the worst luck with parts or am I missing something here? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

bite the bullet and buy an oem replacement or, if its leaking fluid, try replacing just the gasket that might stop the leak. There are youtube videos on total rebuilds but i just wanted to try replacing the leaking gasket. It was the key hole shaped gasket on the back plate, easy 4 bolts to access, and leak fixed. Probably a $5 gasket and a few hours of my time.

Follow this similar DIY and find the pertinent parts for your car to rebuild the pump yourself.

 

I bought one from Napa and it was ok. I just don't have a place yet to work on rebuilding my old one. If you don't have that option might want to try Napa.
