Wiggle after installing short shifter?

I installed my short shifter 3 weeks ago, and didn't like it at first But its grown on me and quick shifting is 2nd nature again.

One thing that does still bug me is that I can wiggle the shifter slightly in neutral or any gear. Its hard to explain, but I can move the stick very slightly up and down without actually moving a gear.

I took apart my center console to make sure everything was tite, and it was. The part that wiggles is the arm that the plastic bushing sits in, its not very tite. I don't know if its because the shifter moves it down 2 inches or what? A helms manual pic would be very helpful.

Anyways, is there a way to tighten this up, a lock nut somewhere that I can adjust? The arm goes back into the front console and I couldn't see what its connected to, the transmission I assume.

thnx

oops, Neuspeed, it was in my profile till today. I don't think its a problem necessary w/ the shifter, put more w/ the shifting mechnanism, or the fact I had to be a little rouch to get the @#$%@#$ busing off in the first time.

It might seem obvious, but did you double check the two hex set screws to make sure they are tight?

I think you're referring to the CompTech shifter, the Neuspeed doesn't have the 2 screws in it, just 1 tigthening one.

When I rechecked my installation last time I'm pretty sure it was tite. I think its this piece that's loose.

I can move it without moving in/out of gear. I will probably try again today or tomorrow, me and the inside of my console are getting real friendly. At least I can get it off in 10 min. now.

Ah, I think that's the problem. I also have the Neuspeed and it should be two set screws. Check out this instruction especially the parts list.

 I remembering reading that in the instructions but figured they were wrong since everything worked. At least I bought the shifter straight from Neuspeed and can get the screws from them.

I see those are the Accord ones (the TSX and Accord shifter part # are the same) I would've much prefered those than my crap text ones.

*edit* after reading the instructions I'm not sure where the 2 setscrews come into play. I noticed 1 screw in my shifter and tightened it as seen here

Was there a screw on the other side as well and I'm retarded? I think the CompTech pictures threw me off when I did mine since I used those instructions more or less.

I can see how you may have missed the screw due to the position of the shifter. I positioned my set screws directly facing the side openings so it was easy to tighten them. If you loosen the set screw that you can see and turn the shifter slightly, I bet you will see the second set screw.

Phew, just opened up my console and checked everything out. I had only screwed in 1 of the screws and the shifter was rotating in place at the bottom of the stick.

I tightened the other screw and now it stays firm. The tiny wiggle is still there, after poking around I'm sure it that shift arm is slightly loose. But tightening the short shifter got rid of a nasty sound my shifter would make putting it into 3rd and 5th gears. Made a nasty cheap metallic sound which is gone now, so I'm happy.

Thanks for quick thinking JTso

im not sure if this is what your talking aobut. but i dont have a short shofiter yet, and my shifter wiggles up and down. the way it feels makes you think it isnt firm enough to be wiggling from the shifting mechanisms, but something further up. its fine if it wiggles a bit, but mine hasnt been too noticable while in gear, so maybe its not the same
