Thumbs up Powdercoating

Hey guys....just wanted to ask you opinion on something.
I am going to go ahead and have my brake calipers powdercoated black and then stenciled with the word Acura like the TL's. I found a place in northern new jersey that does some nice work. And not just on calipers. Looks awesome and gives them a bit of a sportier look then just regular paint. He charges 30-35 each caliper. The only obvious problem is that you need to take off the caliper and all the seals and the pistons and get them to him and be without car for a little while. It should take him 4-5 days he sldo told me. i figure its a pretty cool mod and cheap. Maybe even do the valve cover later. thay also can do the headers but that will run expensive. I asked about a group buy also and he said he would be interested and knock off a percentage. Here are some examples of calipers off a 350Z with cany red powdercoat.

heres the link to his homepage www.trgperformance.com/PC.htm

From the example on the website, it looks pretty cool. It's neat how they blast the surface so it's smooth...the normal rough surface just wouldn't look right.

I really like the way the Brembo brakes look on the TL...the techniques these guys use sound like it'd get the TSX brakes close in look.

Power coat is always impressive. It's so smooth that it looks wet all the time.

ok... with brakes you have got to be careful. you just can't hand over a caliper and have them bead blast it (prepare state). Any particles that are caught in the channels can lead to problems down the line. You will have to make it clear that you don't want the piston side to be powdercoated... in fact tape off everything mechanical and call them letting them know not to powder coat the interanal parts of the caliper.

but if you remove all the seals and everything then you are left with putting everything back together which is more of a pain then you think. unless you have the right tools, then not an issue.

I've got my valve cover and wheels on my '97 Civic powder coated. The results and the durability of it are amazing.

So long as you take the calipers off the car and do about 3-4 coats spray paint will look fine.

It's just easier to cover all the surfaces when you take the calipers off. It's not hard to do, maybe 20mins/side.
