Hondata Advertised vs. Actual

Has anyone noticed that on the Hondata site, the advertised gain from stock ('04 MT) is 40 lb*ft and 50 hp at 6000 rpm, and JTSO's gains are more like 25 lb*ft and 30 hp?...again, at 6000 rpm based on a quick dyno chart comparison from the archives.

Is my analysis of the charts flawed or is the Hondata claim a little aggressive?

The results are from different dynos so they can't be used as direct comparison.

I admittedly don't know much about dynos. I would think the difference would be a slight shift in reading from one to the next, but the change between mods should be similar on both machines. Just my .02 I'll have to look at some other plots for more data.

From the TSX reflash page first graphic:

Gain of 20 ft pounds torque and 24 hp.

Even with an intake and header the gains are 26 torque and 29 HP - close to what people are reporting.

No too sure where you get the higher figures from.

my figures are from bone stock to intake, header, and Hondata...so using the stock numbers in your first graph (133tq and 152hp) and the Hondata'd numbers in your second (175tq and 200hp), I get roughly 42 and 48 for gains respectively for the cumulative effects of these 3 mods...but JTso's numbers don't look quite as hot.

I am not knocking or challenging...and plan to go through with all of the mods...just curious why the discrepancy...thanks for your response.

the difference, for instance, could be as simple as the choice of intake and header...does it say which were used for the examples on your site?

Are you sure you were looking at the dyno charts for the 04/05 reflash and not the 06?

I see where you are confusing yourself. You are trying to compare two completely different dynos from 2 different TSXs. You're basically taking the lowest number from the first dyno "Manual Transmission with no mods" and trying to subtract it from the highest number from the 2nd dyno "Manual transmission with Intake and header". You cannot compare dynos like that. Those are two completely different TSXs. The first is VWongs car, and the 2nd car is someone elses. The dynos were done on different cars on different days, with different temp conditions, so they shouldn't be used for direct comparisions. If they were the same TSX and the dynos were done in the same conditions, then that's the only time you can really compare them.

Gotcha, I spent some time reading the Dynos thread yesterday and have a better idea what to expect. Local shop will baseline for $30...have my header sitting here and intake in the mail...fun times ahead!

Posted in another thread, but I'm headed off to the dyno on Sept. 1 to see what my Comptech I/H/E, RT Cat, Hondata Heatshield and Reflash has done to the car. Also have the TB coolant by-passed.

I have an hour, so I plan to do a run with the Comptech Quiet Tips in and out to see if there is TRULY any difference.

Guess I should plan to take some video too.
