Comptech Short Shifer Review

Hey hey i just installed the SS. i was a pain in the ass at first. but i got it after like 2 hours. the removal of the center console was a bitch and it took at least 40 minutes. i was scared to break anything but i did anyways. the shifter trim piece broke off but it still attached back on so no bigge. finally once we got the CC off i removed the screws and then my friend breaks one of the screw holes right off. so now i dont have anything holding the CC together at a corner. its ok cause it is coverd up and i dont notice a difference. and when i was taking the white ball of the bottom of the shifter i broke a piece of the housing off but it didnt seem to matter and i finally got that ball off. then once we got it all on and reassembled. it was time to drive.

Driving Impressions: when i first shifted it was nice and short. but i did notice that it is harder to shift now. and the shifts are not soomth at all now. my STI had a smoother shift than this with its SS. the shifts seem like its a little too short now for it to get a smooth shift. i am happy with the SS but i just wish the shift was as smooth as before. it seems like i grind everytime i shift. not grinding gears but grinding the sides when i shift if you know what i mean. well thats all guys ill cya later.

Yeah your hitting the shift gate but after couple weeks of driving you probably prefer SShifter over stock.

Yeah it was a pain for me to do as well. I decided to do the install in two days. I removed the center consol the first day and then removed that little annoying white socket the next. Luckily I didn't break anything.

Funny, I didn't find the install painful at all. In fact, I enjoyed it.

The only problem area was the white ball on the stock shifter, but with a proper sized open-ended wrench, and a bit of force, it popped off without problem.

It did take me a few weeks to get accustomed to the SS feel and the "grind" you speak of, but now after driving a stock 6MT TSX, I LOVE the SS in my car. Its just so perfect, and the feel and positive "snick snick" are awesome.

Could you test if 4th, 5th and 6th gear shifts are as smooth as stock?

Glad I had mine installed at the dealer. The only time I have ever driven a TSX 6MT without the SS is when i test drove the car. Then the car was ordered and I had to wait 3-4 months for it, so I forgot what it felt like. My parents bought the short shifter ( I had asked for it as an Xmas Gift) and had it secretly installed by the dealer before I even took delivery, so all I really know is the SS... and I love it.

no man all the gears got a little stiffer and harder to shift. maybe when i wear them in it will be better.

I'd agree that the shifts are stiffer, but then again I have the Comptech SS AND the metal shift housing bushings, making things quite solid. But, finding the gears is definately still VERY easy, and I honestly see no downside to it.

I hope your gears don't "wear in"... that can't be good.

Red text denotes sarcasm.

Thus, my whole statement was meant to be sarcastic and facetious.

Ahh, was wondering. Because 1st, 2nd and 3rd have triple cone synchros while 4th to 6th have double cones. Was wondering if the increase in shifting speed was too fast for the triple cones.
