Can't decide which headers!

Hey everybody, i've been doing some research on headers for my 2004 M/T TSX but i can't decide which one to get. The $100-$200 ones on ebay seem to be junk, the $300 DC headers have terrible reliability at the flex pipe. Those that replaced the flex pipe still developed somehow. And the more expensive ones like Hytech are race headers so they get rid of the Catalytic converter, which i need. So what do you all recommend?

The Comptech headers are reasonably priced at around $500, excellent quality & bolt in keeping the cat converter.

If you don't have to pass annual smog inspections in your area, the Weapon R headers & removing the cat will make more power & are around $500 also.

I'm happy with the gains. The fit is excellent, it's been reliable for years, even purchased used.

The cheap headers on ebay are junk.

There is not much of a price difference between DC + parts/labor to replace the flex pipe if you don't already own welding equipment or have a friend in a shop.

Comptech is real stainless steel, not some mystery alloy or mild steel with an outer space coating. It's 1 piece - I prefer that, I want to keep the cat. I don't see how the extra gain warrants being environmentally irresponsible. If you want to shell out less up front and take on an known issue in the future, possibly at an inconvenient time, etc, that's up to you. Bottom line, you get what you pay for.

Nailed it....had mine for 4 or 5 years now, I don't even have to think about it. My car was just smogged too, no problems whatsoever...

So it sounds like Comptech is a unanimous choice! Reliability is definitely what i'm looking for... i hate having to constantly worry about something breaking in the back of my head. Where are you guys getting it for $500? I only see it for sale on heeltoe for $600.

Yea as far as i know that rattling noise is only for automatic TSXs. I'm still curious to know where you're all getting your Comptech headers for so cheap.

Not from the manufacturer per se, but there is a solution out there on the club website. Heeltoe links to it from his listing for the CT-E header....

Involves a steel bracket, a couple of bolts. I'm going to do it one of these days, but the motivation for me to get under my car is lessening with age....

EDIT:

here is heeltoe's listing and the link to the solution within that.
