Sequential Sportshift
Sequential Sportshift
Can anyone explain to me how to drive my TSX using the SS. I have never driven a standard before so I have no clue other than putting it in D and stepping on the gas. I'd like to know how to use it in both city driving and on the highway. I hope this doesn't sound stupid.

Move the shifter to the left into SS mode and push up for moving up a gear and pull down to go down a gear. There are 5 gears (1,2,3,4, and 5). If you are in 5th gear and you come to a stop, you can just let the car automatically downshift for you. BUT YOU MUST REMEMBER that the car WILL NOT UPSHIFT for you. You need to up shift between 2500-6000RMP (I do it at 3000-3500 rpm), otherwise you go past the rev limiter in 1st gear and possibly void your powertrain(?) warranty. I believe you can shift between automatic and SS mode at anytime, even when you are moving. Hope that helps.
Here is a thread with some info on the SS with the same exact thread title:

Ok, quick funny story in this related thread......
My boss is from Austria and is here in the US as an export. He is shopping for a Volkswagon Passat Wagon, so I went with him to take a test drive today. He is a bad driver as it is, and he has only driven MT (very common in Austria / Germany). They only had an AT with SS on the lot (even though he wanted a MT). Needless to say, the test drive with him was terrifying. He didn't know how to drive an AT
, and when he started playing with the SS and I though it was the end of me...

ss driving is really fun, but you have to be careful. watch your tach (rpms), especially when shifting from 1st to 2nd. the rpms are going to go upwards fairly quick until 3rd gear is reached. i wouldn't suggest downshifting with the ss until you're comfortable with the gear change points, which for most people is around 2.5k to 3.5k between each gear i think. also, because you're new to ss, you should probably let the car automatically downshift when slowing or coming to a stop.
fyi, many people downshift to slow the car (engine braking) when they're not using to overtake. however, if you decide to use engine braking, avoid downshifting from 2nd to 1st because the rpms will jump really high if the car is still moving in higher speeds of 2nd gear. personally, i don't use engine braking.
btw, whenever you change gears, you can keep your foot on the gas (i.e. you really don't have to wait for the gear change).

oh yeah, you'll also notice your usual AT gear-change points will be slightly different in ss mode. so usually i don't drive in ss mode on the highway unless i'm going to overtake someone.
for example: in 5th gear ss mode, you'll be revving at a slightly higher rpm at 70 or 80mph than regular AT at 70 or 80mph. with 4th gear in ss, you can reach 2.5k at around 55mph or so as opposed to AT, where you can change from 4th to 5th at about 45mph or so at 2.5k.
