You should hear it around 6000 rpm (and feel it).

Nope, definitely not. I have the automatic and when the i-VTEC kicks in, you can definitely hear it. It's closer to 6000 rpms than 5k.

mine sounds like a wild animal after 6200rpm

I wouldn't worry so much about the sound, can you feel it? Try getting up to Vtec w/o stomping on the throttle. The intake should make no extra noise and you should easily be able to hear the engine.

good point. Are you at WOT when doing this. It's pretty short time to listen compared to the rest.

I still don't think yo really need to hear it

regarding reseting the ECU?

Do you really have to reset the ECU? This is the first time I've heard of this, so does anyone know if its needed? If it is, then I need to go and reset that bad boy!

Absolutely NOT! Resetting the ECU erases stored codes and STFT/LTFT info but it has nothing to do with the problem.

do you guys with autos feel any difference in performance? I mean I don't know if it'd be worth it to mod an automatic

From my old racing days, It is beast to reset the ECU when something in installed in your ride (performance wise) so the Ecu will read it. Just a simple battery disconnection will do it.

Uh, I know you can hear it (if you really listen) but what is this "and feel it" thing you talk about? lol! I certainly don't feel it. You make it sound like there's a huge influx of mass-motivating torque that comes from the motor at 6K.... in reality, TSX's torque curve drops at around that engine speed and the cam profiles go long just to squeeze out whatever power the screaming 4-banger has left over to make the final stretch to 7K. VTEC certainly kicks in, but seems that in this application, Honda has tuned it so that it kicks in smoothly at the most approprtiate time and without drama so that even the most sensitive of butt dynos won't feel it because it simply isn't there.

VTEC in the TSX is very unlike VTEC of past Hondas like the si's, prelude, etc. It's a more civilized, smoother, and liveable evolution of VTEC. At 6K and above, there's really nothing more to feel, but I won't deny that it's still sweet music to my ears.

vtec @ 6000rpm

vtec@ 6000rpm, you should feel a little twitch. Nothing huge, and a sound change thats about it.

So for sure there is a tiny kick in there which almost feels nothing.
