New TSX Owner here w/ some technical questions
Hey All,
after driving my 94 accord around for a while, I finally stepped it up and got a used 05 TSX 6 speed non-nav last week. What a difference 10 years and 55 extra horses makes. The car is phenomenal, the six speed is smooth, the interior is sick. My only regret is not having Navigation. I have a few questions though.
1. When I unlock the door to get in, that soft "ding...doong" sound that repeats...Mine only does it a couple times then cuts out. My accord used to have a similar sound but was continuous. Any thoughts on why this sound might be cutting off?
2. At night, when I turn on the accessory lights, there is that blue light that shines down onto the center console and shifter. Is this simply for ambience, or are they supposed to aid in glowing another set of controls on my center console? I've noticed that I can't see my radio buttons at night, and that blue light doesn't help much either. The radio screen comes on, the buttons do not. What gives?
3. I'm a pretty conservative driver most of the time. I try to keep my shifts between 2-3k rpms. is this too low? Your responses would be appreciated

The car is very sedate at those rpms. This is the "dual nature" of the TSX due to the 4-cyl engine. Calm and fuel efficient - keep the revs low. You want to tap into the power the TSX actually has and you need to make that engine howl at 4k+. Don't worry - it's made for it (assuming it's in good shape and you take care of it), but don't expect good gas mileage either!

1-2 shift : 12 mph
2-3 shift : 23 mph
3-4 shift : 34 mph
4-5 shift : 45 mph
5-6 shift: 56 mph
(Anyone see the pattern here? :gheylaugh: )
That being said, the TSX motor was made to rev -- more so than may other motors -- so live little. I routinely up shift between 3500 and 4000 RPM, and downshift in the low 2000's (still pretty wimpy driving ) just driving around town and still get 26-27 mpg.

I'll add to the response to question #1 and #2...
1. If you put your seatbelt on before starting the car you wont hear the ding at all, and if you put your seatbelt on while it's dinging it will abruptly stop the sound.
2. If your radio buttons are not back lit, you should see the dealer.
