Are the New TSX Lights Different?

Can anyone tell me if the new 06-07 TSX headlights (projectors) are different from the 04-05? Do the older lights produce more color than the new ones? Thanks guys!

I don't think so. The taillights are different for the '06's, but the headlights are the same.

This is from the TSX website under features & options:

HID Headlights
All TSX models are equipped with Xenon High-Intensity Discharge headlights for both the low and high beams. Xenon lights cast a whiter and brighter light for improved clarity. The HID lenses also allow a more precise beam pattern that increases road visibility without blinding oncoming drivers.

Things that make u go .... "hmmmmmmmmm"? Bi-xenons would have been wicked on the '06s. DRLs would have been cool too ... then I could change them and make them blue!

The TSX comes standard with High Intensity Discharge (HID) low beams and halogen high beams.

Yes, the 07 has DRL's

It will also now automatically turn on the headlights at night. I still can't believe a 30k car is just now getting that feature.

That is the text for the 2007... Has anyone ever driven up to a dealer to look at an '07?. Halogen lamps and HID lamps look very different, and it wouldn't be too hard to verify.

I may be wrong, don't think the 2007's have hit the dealers yet. The online inventories in my area show only 2006's in stock.

I still believe that there will be unchanged. I have no idea about that info on acura.com, but we would have seen / heard about it by now! Even their pictures of the 07 show the halogen high beams. We will just have to wait for the 07s to hit dealer lots or a new 07 owner to show up here.

Can anyone confirm and provide proof of DRLs for 2007?? That's a HUGE feature that I wish the TSX has and I am already jealous of TPMS in the 07s. I really hope those features can be swapped into 06s.

We might be able to integrate DRL's...i dunno how the new tsx will be automatic hids cause it seems like they would have to changge the stalk and everything for that...

The TPMS i doubt we can, unless they can reflash our MID.

I'm curious, what is the attraction of DRLs? Appearance?

Safety. Its been proven over and over again that DRL's make for safer driving. Although I'm sure they'll be people disputing that anytime now. Most manufactuers are now moving to DRL's as standard. I'm sure they're not doing so out of the goodness of they're own heart or because they look cool. They're doing so for safety reason's.

My 04 TSX has DRL's BTW

DRL's have been mandatory in Canada for years so every TSX ever sold here already has them. Shouldn't be too difficult to add them on.

This is from Acura's website:
Lighting & Visibility Overview
As striking as the TSX is, Acura increased its visibility even further with Daytime Running Lights (DRL).

Well, you won't be able to tell till you actually turn it on.. bi-xenon doesn't NOT mean two sets of HID lights (a lot of people get this confused), it's just that the low beams have a motorized slit that normally covers the top part of the beam. When the high beams are turned on, the slit moves and allows more light to pass through so that the beams project further.

When the high beams are turned on, both the motorized slit retracts, and the halogen high beams come on. The halogen high beams are still needed because if you turn on the high beam when the headlights are off, the HID doesn't ignite fast enough. This is how it works on most of the cars I've encountered that has bi-xenon lights, anyway. I doubt the TSX will be any different.

With that said, the lights will just look exactly the same when they're not turned on.

They are actually. The white circle on the 06's is greyed out compared to plain white on the 04, 05. Very small difference but still a difference.

Also:

04/05 reflectors were a "orthogonal" grid pattern.

06 got a starbust pattern that radiates out from the center.
The backup lenses are also greyish/silver vs clear (or maybe the reflectors behind them are a darker metal than before).

How often do you guys use your highs anyhow? Only time I've used mine in the past 3 months is to flash oncoming drivers warning them of a speed trap.

A lot. I live in suburbia where the deer roam and the roads are dark and twisty. Nice bright lights are essential.

I have looked at very closely at the projectors from the 04-05 and they are indeed different projectors than those from the 06 TSX. The projectors on the 04-05 don't have any ripples on the projector. The ones on the 06 projectors do have ripples closer to those found on the BMW 5-Series.
