MTF change '06 TSX

I decided to do it this past weekend!
Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF) Change

Tools:
8mm Hex tool
3/8 M socket wrench
oil catcher/pan
HONDA MTF fluid
Funnel with Straw

Procedure:
1) Start the car and warm up the fluids if you haven’t driven the car within 5 hours or so.

2) Unloosen or remove the bolt where you refill in the tranny fluid with a socket wrench (located near the middle between the water coolant hose and battery) (8MM Hex) or hex key if possible

3) Unbolt the drain bolt under the tranny with socket wrench (3/8 M)

4) Let the fluid drain into the oil catcher/pan

5) Once all fluid is drained, put the bolt back in the drain and tighten

6) Use the funnel with straw and attach the end of straw into the top refill bolt location

7) Pour in MTF fluid until it spills back out (about two and .1 quarts – two and .5 quarts)

8) Remove funnel and put the bolt back in and tighten it (8MM Hex), wipe all the spots where the fluid may have leaked

9) Start the engine and enjoy the smooth buttery shifting!! =D

I don't think you can really overfill the tranny unless your car is unleveled. Also, you could flush out the old fluid a little by pouring some new fluid as both plugs are open. I think it's recommended that you change out the washers too, but I was too lazy to look for those and thought it wasn't needed. I'll check for any leaks by the end of the week.

That is not the transmission fill hole! In fact, no more than 2.1 qts will fit if filled in the proper hole. The fill hole is facing the driver side wheel, it's a 17mm if I remember correctly. No hex needed. You should be very careful when yanking random bolts or screws. I'll look in my manual but I'm pretty sure you pulled some sort of set pin for the internals.

Also, does "unloosen" mean to tighten?

Page 13-29: The hex bolt you pulled is #6 Interlock Bolt.

It holds the interlock in place from the outside of the case. You're lucky it didn't shift at all while the bolt was out or you'd be pulling out the change lever assembly to realign everything.

Honda has never used a hex on any drain/fill plug.

Are you referring to the owner's manual? I was referring to the service manual.

Well here's the page:

I found found the proper filler bolt. I guess i should have looked here before I did anything. You can see it between the drive train boot and power steering rack. I took many photos for those who have a hard time finding it.

and you're right huludicidal, it is a 17mm bolt. Thanks for the alert!

Pictures still work just scroll down for the new pictures of the actual fill bolt. The first pics he posted and deleted was the wrong bolt.

Other pictures you don't really need.

I refilled, 2qts, using the 8mm hex. Is this a problem? I thought something was off; ran in here to find this thread!!

Should I be concerned? I did take it for a test ride and shifts were smooth.

Does anyone know what diameter hose to use for re-filling? Author only refers to a straw.
