Anyone in the Baltimore / DC Metro area doing these mods for a fee? Perhaps on an '05 TSX, say? luxurymed@yahoo.com

Thanks!

Guys, check out post #437 (I think) in the TL forum. It explains how to handle the three images. Bascially, in a nutshell, just make the emblem and text a blank BMP file, and do whatever you want to the Openingbase.bmp file. Load all three back and the system will overlay the blank files ontop of the openingbase file. Just be sure the files are the EXACT same size.

Has anyone made any progress with the 08's? I'm going to try pulling the bmp's off the DVD and see if I can make 2 blank ones, and modify the base one to the image I want.

sorry it's been so long...work keeps me pretty busy...

on my '08, I resized NaviTitle.bmp and Acura_Emblem.bmp to be 1x1 pixels in size...which essentially makes them "disappear" when displayed on top of OpeningBase.bmp

blipszyc is correct that the files need to be the EXACT same size...but it only applies to OpeningBase.bmp, when you resize the other two files they will obviously be much smaller than the originals but it shouldn't affect the navi at all.

on a side note...many of the guys I work with were pretty impressed that people were able to "hack" navi splash screen through reverse engineering...and that's saying a lot considering I' work at Honda R&D...so props to all you guys who blazed the trail for us

I was able to get this to work with my 08 TSX. I only have Navi 4.56 in my 08, strange because the 2008 version is 4.62, I guess because my 08 is an "early" batch and was made in 07/2007?

Anyways, I followed the directions in BananaFusion's post (#1242). This is only updating the splash screen.

Basically I had to use a couple programs to resize Navi_Title.bmp and Acura_emblem.bmp I opened these in MS Paint(only program that could open them), resized them to 1x1 pixels, and saved as 256 color BMP. To resize you click the bottom right corner of the image and drag it to the far upper left, and it will be resized to a tiny 1x1 image.

I had to get creative with copying/pasting to get my picture downsized to the proper aspect ratio, to fit in the required 480x234 dimensions. Once I got it, I saved as a 256 color BMP, then used the "8to16" program to resize to a 16bit image. I guess my dimensions were right, because the file was EXACTLY the size that it needed to be.

Then I had to run bysin.exe THREE TIMES. Once for Acura_emblem, once for Navi_Title and once for OpeningBase. The first 2 images were my 1x1 versions, and OpeningBase was what I got after running "8to16" above.

Burned the six files to a CDR and followed the rest of the directions for downloading the CDR to the navi, worked flawlessly.

The only tricky part is getting the image modified to the right dimensions/format. The rest is pretty easy.

Lightbulb Backup Cam / TV Tuner

I was checking the drivers included on the Orange Navigation DVD (V3.xx) and discovered that there are drivers nestled within the disc for a backup cam, tv tuner AND telephone.... now I realise some of you Acura owners already have phone capabilities, but for a Honda owner, I am completely shocked!

Bysin eluded to the backup cam some time ago now, but I didn't believe him until I saw the code with my own eyes. It is indeed true.

So I stir the pot. If you are also looking into the possiblity of unlocking additional features within the existing software, AND you have some programming background... let me know... my site is: geekeng.com

I'm a programming nerd.

Once I get my TSX (a week or so), I'm sooo gonna be playing with the DVD. I want to find out what kind of cool nerdy things I can do. Change the Navi screen to display a picture of yours truely or change some other little cosmetic things.

I'll check out what I can do with the drivers...It's possible the developers just include all drivers to make their lives easier, but the hardware doesn't support it...Just guessing at this point.

I've been looking into the possibility of a backup camera because Honda makes such a beast that plugs into a navigation DVD ECU. However, it appears you need a navigation DVD ECU that has the 6 pin connector to support it. Unfortunately, mine does not. Perhaps someone needs to see about using new model navigation systems with support for things like bluetooth and mp3/wma with older model cars. Maybe not much has changed and we can upgrade our cars with little or no programming/reverse engineering.

I just picked up my new 2008 yesterday...It has 4.6.2, which seems to be the latest.

Any specific street you're looking for? I'll check for it, but I cost 5 cents per mile-away-from-home

Has anybody tried the KPTechnologies Navigation "OK" Bypass?

If bysins program really didn't get rid of the nag I'd imagine people would be down for the forty bones.

Does anyone know if this would work on the '09 TSX? I had it working on my '05 TSX however, I went this past Saturday and test drove the '09, then couldn't help it... fell in love with it!

I want to change the display though... if anyone has tried it out, let me know! I can't figure out how to get to the menu screen, to load the CD. I'm going to try tonight and see what .bin files are on the CD.

Resize them to a single pixel. then save in the correct format, convert it to 16bit RGP or whatever, etc. Rename to the standard conventional names, re-make the .bin file updated with the 3 BMP files, burn to CDR, update nav, etc.

Technically they are still there but you don't notice a single pixel overlayed on your image.

They are nestled inside the 07touch2.bin file

You need to use bysins program to extract them

thanks!

i was able to get this to work in my 07 with the 4.56a cd.

the problem is the image is not very clear. very pixely.

when i use paint to resave the image as a 256 it changes the quality of the image and asks me if i want to save it.

is the quality suppose to be like that?

No luck!

The bin files on the '09 are completely different. Also the when I attempt to use the bysin program. I was able to extract some files from the .bin files that where on the DVD, however the program locks up..

I'm going to explore the DVD a little more...

depends which version disc you're running. there's a thread in the TL forums for 3.xx. 4.xx the furthest I believe anyone's gotten is changing the boot image.

does your cd drive have the DVD logo on the side? That's the only reason I can think of.
