Modify your navigation system
am i missing something?!?!
so ive scanned through most of the pages to see if i missed something but cant seem to come up with anything.
i tried to follow bysin's guide but when i went onto the nav and looked for the "Loading Filename" it was no where to be found.
so i figured id just toss the disc into my comp to see whats on it and i only have 9 bin files, one of which is over 280mb.
so excuse my newbness lol but did i miss something??
oh its an 04tsx btw

Hey Gang,
Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead again, I have a 07 Accord and followed Bananas instructions to a T even replacing Opening3 with Opening1.bmp because its a 07.. I burned the six files to a disk, downloaded to my unit.. and the dang stock Honda screen still shows up.. I do realize this IS a Acura forum but since there pretty similar I was wondering if someone with a 07 Acura had the same problem? Thanks Gang!

Quick update.. I extracted 07Touch2.bin, took a look at the files and it seems there are 3 bmp's that make up the opening screen on my accord.. Navibase which is the space background, Navi_Title which is the "Navigation System" text and Honda_emblem which is the Honda logo. I used Bysin's program to update the Navibase with my customer image, loaded it onto my system, and the custom image shows up fine but with the Honda emplem and "Navigation System" bmp's on top of it.. If i upload these can anyone make them Transparent bmp's for me so i can update them in the .bin file and hopefully finally have a true custom boot screen? Thanks!
So i used hex editor to change around the welcome screen, and also some of the other commands. But i'm still having trouble puttin the HMImanager back in to 06touch2.bin anyone figure this out yet? i'm not sure where to see if the code stays the same. how do i look at that? well i guess that doesn't even matter if i can't put it back into the bin.
Honda Navigation Bluetooth
Honda offers bluetooth in the navi system for models sold in the EU. Details are at http://www.hondahandsfree.com/ or by going to one of the Honda EU sites such as honda.es or Honda.de. They do not offer bluetooth in any Honda for sale in the States. I think this is two part, first because the Sates is behind the rest of the world when it comes to GSM technology and second, due to marketing, as they want you to buy the Acura instead.
I wonder if you can add the bluetooth application to the States navi system? Is there just a flag byte that needs to be changed to enable bluetooth? Could it be as simple as getting a copy of the EU version firmware and installing it? Could you copy the bluetooth module from the EU version to the States version? Is all of the hardware needed built into the States navi system? (bluetooth transceiver, extra buttons needed on steering wheel?)
There are a ton of U.S. Honda owners out there who would be ecstatic to be able to add the same bluetooth functionality that is already coded into Hondas sold elsewhere.

A quick question for you (or anyone else out there with an 07 TL). Did your original startup screen read "Navigation System" or "Satellite Navigation System with Acura Link?"
I checked my Navi disc (4.55A) and in the file 07touch2.bin, I have four pictures as far as I can tell that are related to the opening sequence: openingbase.bmp (picture of earth under black space), navi_title.bmp (text reading "Navigation System", acura_emblem.bmp (self explanatory), and opening1.bmp (earth with blue lines criss-crossed over it with the words "Satellite Navigation System with Acura Link."
My 07 TSX shows the composite picture of the first three pictures layered on top of each other. The fourth one, which you describe altering, is there but never shows up on screen. I'm guessing that's an 07 TL-only file. It's just curious that for all other versions of their Navi, Honda/Acura has just used one startup screen file that you can replace easily. Except for the 07 TSX.

idk why this is, i did this once, but i reverted it back to normal, now after i took it to the dealer and tried to do this again, i cant find any of the bin files, nor can i find the loading filename thing....
wtf?!?!?!
did they remove this or something??

did you get a new version of the dvd? or maybe the files are hidden on the dvd and you need to make sure you can view hidden files. you could also try doing a search for the files. make sure you select the options to search hidden files and search compressed files.
cybereclipse,
did the dealer update your DVD or is it the same DVD? If they updated it (i.e. gave you an updated DVD), then it could have some fscked up partitions that the Navi can read but most DVD drives cannot. If it's the same old DVD, then maybe your DVD drive is going bad... try it on another computer.

Hey synstsia, have you figured out where the configuration files are that tells the Nav to load software based upon the vehicle type? I have a feeling that this may help point to a safer way call up apps.
The old 3.x version Nav software used to bundle each specific vehicles applications and features in one bin file with a specific name. The Nav hardware would simply look for the name of the file that corresponds to the vehicle.
The newer 4.x software does not rely on bin filenames. One or 2 files house all of the applications. Depending on the hardware unit, it will load the appropriate software. My guess is that it must be structured in a way that there are common config files on all Nav DVDs that the unit will look for. Based on the config file and the ROM info on the DVD drive, it will select a specific profile. This in my mind would be the easiest way to remain inter operable going forward.
If we can edit these config files and profiles, theoretically we could enable features and software that are only enabled for other cars as long as those features do not require newer hardware...

The actual navigation system is in Windows CE running a SH-4 processor, similar to a Sega Dreamcast (if not identical). I just bought my TSX about 2 days ago, but luckily I had a lot of experience hacking the Dreamcast so it didnt take me very long to hack the navigation system.
Here is the link to the program including there Visual C++ source code:
http://www.linuxkiddies.com/bysin/navi.zip
This is the ReadMe contained in the zip, it includes step by step instructions on how to use the program:
DumpNAVI by bysin
-----------------
This program is used to list, extract, and modify files contained in an XIP BIN file located on Acura/Honda navigation DVD. This system has been tested on the TSX. Use at your own risk.
Some of the things I have been able to modify are:
- Changed the background picture to my own personal image.
- Removed the "nag screen" at the beginning screen.
- Change some of the words that pop up.
Here are some step-by-step instructions on how to modify files in your navigation system. It requires a DVD-ROM drive and a CD or DVD burner.
1. At the main screen of the navigation system, hold down the Map/Guide, Menu, and Cancel buttons for 5 seconds.
2. Hit the "Version" button on the touch screen.
3. Hold down the Menu button for 5 seconds.
4. Write down the filename next to the words "Loading Filename" (ex. BNHN404A.BIN).
5. Open your trunk and find the DVD player attached to the navigation system.
6. Push down the front plate and eject the Navigation DVD-ROM.
7. Place the DVD in your computer and copy all 9 BIN files onto your hard drive (should be around 104 MB), this includes:
BN2HH12C.BIN
BN2HH110.BIN
BN2HH120.BIN
BN2HHMLD.BIN
BN2HN12B.BIN
BN2HN18B.BIN
BN2HN380.BIN
BNHH401A.BIN
BNHN404A.BIN
8. Use the dumpnavi tool to extract the files on the BIN file that was on your car, ex:
dumpnavi BNHN404A.BIN extract
9. The files will extract to the directory associated with the name of the file.
10. After modifying the files, use the dumpnavi tool to update them to the BIN, ex:
dumpnavi BNHN404A.BIN update Back.bmp
dumpnavi BNHN404A.BIN update navi.exe navi-nonag.exe
dumpnavi BNHN404A.BIN update Diag.exe
11. Copy the modified BIN file, including all other BIN files (9 in total) to a blank CD or DVD.
12. Insert the origional navigation DVD back into the DVD-ROM in your car.
13. Start the car normally, and at the main navigation screen hold Map/Guide, Menu, and Cancel for 5 seconds once again.
14. Hit the "Version" button on the touch screen once again.
15. Take the origional navigation DVD out of the car, and replace it with the CD/DVD you just created.
16. Hit the "Load Disc" button on the Version screen.
17. It should take about 20 seconds for your car to load the new BIN and reboot. Once that happens, take out your burned CD/DVD and put back the origional navigation DVD.
18. If anything goes wrong, remove the ground to the battery for 30 seconds with the origional DVD in the car. The old OS will load back on the system.

I don't think anyone has bothered to hack that... it's likely just a hash algorithm.
If you need your code, go to your dealer to get it or pull out all the original paperwork that came with the car as there is a card that was given that has the code or a sticker in the interior glove box, etc...

seems to be a few techies here. i've read this whole thread and i'm impressed.
wondering if you can possibly help with a similar situation on the 07 Acura RL base model. it isn't that Acura deleted trip computer functionality, that is there, it is that Acura decided only to activate the Navi system on the 07 RL's that have the Tech package which is a $4k option (unlike the 05 & 06 RL's that all come standard with Navi).
i normally wouldn't complain, except that in the RL all of the equipment necessary for the Navi is there: screen, buttons, GPS antenna, DVD-ROM drive in trunk, etc... You can even push a "Compass" button (on the Navi RL's it is the "Map" button) and in the base RL you can see GPS coordinates including Lat, Long, and Altitude.
So other than one button be labeled differently, and not having a Nav DVD disc in the player in the trunk (there is a Navteq GPS CD-ROM disc instead), I can't see any reason why Navi could not be enabled by some kind of "hack" on the 07 Base RL's.
Is anyone willing to help?

Well after trying to do this for the last 5 hrs... i've decided its not gonna work being done by me with the large amount of info there is and the little bit of understanding i have for it. Maybe its my computer, maybe its me... but i just cant get past the step where the bysin program starts to open stuff up... i dunno.
If anyone has actually done this for an 07 TSX please let me know... hell i'll even pay for some step by step directions if you have them/want to make them.
lemme know... it'd be a cool mod to have on my car.
