Finally purchased a 04 TSX w/Nav .... BUT!

Not more than 20 minutes after I signed on the dotted line and was driving home from the dealership, I was hit.

The light had turned green and after checking there were no oncoming cars, I proceeded to make a left turn. All of a sudden, I hear tires screeching from the left and then BOOM! I open my eyes and everything is foggy from the side curtain aribags that were deployed.

I thank God (so does my wife) that the TSX is built like a tank. The left front fender was bent, exposing the front bumper and there were all kinds of scratches along the drivers side of the car. The interior showed no signs of the accident. The engine bay of the other car, on the other hand, was completely crumpled.

I feel very fortunate that no one was injured but I am becoming very annoyed by the fact that the other guy claims he had a yellow light. Why would I start my turn on a red light? :sqntfawk:

It scares me to think what a person like him would do if he accidently hit a pedestrian in a secluded side street.

Drive safely and enjoy your TSX. I will sure miss mine.... :'(

Man that sucks. Sorry to hear that but I'm glad you're OK.

Side story: The first dealer I went to for my test drive couldn't take me out because their demo TSX was t-boned on a test drive earlier that morning. I guess they their money's worth out of that test drive.

That SUCKS.

I hope the insurance company totaled it out for you, so you can get a new one.

Man, that stinks. Sorry to hear about that. Glad everyone was OK. We got to drive our new TSX home in the rain and lightning. I was praying there would be no hail.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.....Glad to hear that you are ok and that you and your wife did not sustain any injuries.

Try and get the insurance company to total the car so that you can get a new one. If you say that the engine bay is totally crumpled, i wouldn't expect it to be a easy repair.

Never EVER leave the accident site without a witness if at all possible. Yellow lights do not mean they have the ROW anyhow. Yellow means be prepared to stop. He probaly was trying to beat the light. Check to see if there are any cameras at that intersection. Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

Oh man, I can't even imagine what kind of a downer that was.
Honestly, if that was me - and then the guy started giving me shit too. Well let's just say I might have had to do to him what you think he'd have done to that "pedestrian in a secluded side street."
You must have nerves of steel not have kicked that guy's ass right there.

You should get money from the insurance company, and then see if your dealership will give you a deal on a new one, since you bought two TSX's in a month! Maybe extra cash for mod's...

Yikes. That's a bummer. Talk about an emotional roller coaster ride. I'm glad you're OK. Just hope the guy keeps on claiming he had a yellow light, that can only help you.

always sorry to hear about an accident. but glad no one's hurt (or that you hurt the driver after the accident ). hopefully the insurance company will give you a new one. if not, do you still plan on keeping the repaired tsx or fight for your $ back/a new one?

if you got some pics, try to post 'em. i'm curious to see how the tsx handled a severe accident.

Thanks for the sympathetic replies folks. I really appreciate it.

I did take pics of my TSX but they are still on my camera phone. Looking at them again, the exterior looks ugly (for a new car) but there does not seem to be any functional damage. I will try to post.

To put the impact into perspective, the speed limit is 40 and this guy skidded at least 20 feet (rough est. of skid marks) before impact and his front end just crumpled at least half way to the cabin.

Considering how bad the other guy's Toyota Paseo looked, I am sold on how safe the TSX is. My wife was actually following me in her car and she told me the TSX didn't budge at all. We are so greatful that I wasn't driving her civic.

Forgive my ignorance, as this is my first serious accident, is it really possible to get my insurance company to replace my car (i.e., total loss) when the damage was mostly cosmetic? Perhaps my original post was misread.

Take care all.

Unfortunatly, if you live in California, the at-fault insurance company is responsible for the claim. Your company will take care of you, but its going to be up the guys insurance company to make the total determination. Make it clear to your insurance company that you want a replacement car for this. Hopefully, if this guy has a decent insurance company, it shouldnt be a problem. If not, get ready for a battle. Just make sure your insurance company is fighting for you.

I actually just moved to North Carolina. I would be more than happy if they my company would replace the car for a new one. Unfortunately, he is with Geico. From what I hear, they're payouts are far from generous.

It just irks me that this guy insists he had the right of way (i.e., I entered the intersection on a red) when I know (as God as my witness) for a fact that I had a green and proceeded after a couple of seconds.

Ummm, well I hope you have more then God as your witness A mortal or two might benifit.

Did you get witnesses? Dont worry about what the guy says, if you have witnesses that saw what happened, no problem. If not, problem.

You said your wife was just behind, right? I assume she'll be able to testify about your green light?

No Mortals, unfortunately. There was a lady behind my wife but she made a quick right to avoid the mess. Wish there was a way to find her.

The situation absolutely sucks.

Oh yes, she had the best view of the accident. But her statement is considered legally biased.
