Extended Warranty
Extended Warranty
Hey guys, so who here has bought the extended warranty. Right now I have owned my 05 TSX for one year and have about 23K miles on it. I am considering buying the extended warranty. I called about it and the best one looks to be the 5yr/84K extended warranty for $1680. So my questions are, are these prices independant of what dealership you buy the extended warranty though and can you buy the extended warranty though a dealership you didn't buy the car at? Also what is the coverage? Is it the same as the full warranty or does it cover less? Also is it transferrable if i sell the car? So anyone out there who has bought the extended warranty could you give me some advice or tips. Thanks alot guys.
yes, you can buy it out of state and therefore not pay tax. best site so far is hondacuraworld.com. i bought mine when the car has 200 miles, i got the 8yr/120k warranty for around $1390. i price matched with an out of state dealer, so i could save tax as i live near hondacuraworld.com
I got mine when I got my car from the dealer. It was 1500ish for a 7year/75k warranty (I think, but I could be wrong). I only drive my TSX maybe 10 miles a day, so I probably won't even reach it.
You don't have to buy it from dealers. There are companies online that offer it. I think some may require an inspection of your car beforehand (ie: if you have thousands of dollars in problems, you can't go out and buy a warranty to cover it).

critic81, I strongly suggest you get it, especially if it is under the same terms and danishj.

Does anyone know if that means you can choose to recieve the money that you have already payed on it ...., if you decide to not stick with the extended waranty. For example....., if you decide to mod your car after 50,000 miles, (after factory warranty) thus voiding your extended warranty anyway???? or does it mean that at the end of the 100,000 miles/ 6 years (the life of the extended warranty) you recieve your money back if you didnt claim anything under that warranty? Not quit sure what money back return policy means? Can someone help?? thanks Can you cancle at anytime...., because Im thinking of doing this....., and saving a little on my monthly payments....., what do ya think???
It seems from my experience, that buying an extended warranty on a Honda made car, is pretty unnecessary.
I owned a couple Honda Accords that had well over 150,000 miles on them, and they were still running great when I got rid of them. My 88' Accord had 240,000 miles on it when I sold it. The engine ran flawlessly.

Bought mine from the dealer at time of purchase - 7yr/100K > $950. I strongly urge you NOT to purchase an aftermarket one. I have twice - both companies filed BR and I did not get any type of settlement. Stay with Acura brand warranty.

figure this. if it's $1700, the only thing you lose out on is interest earned....if you never use it, it's not a big loss for the extra "insurance"
but i doubt most people would need to use it. most issues covered under warranty happen early, not late. so it seems useless.
yup, and oh btw, when i got it, my dad read papers closely and found this hidden fee of paying 100 dollars everytime something is found to be wrong (i forgot what this term is called). its like health insurace, when u get your arm broken, u have to pay a certain amount before insurance pays. but yea, my dad found it and fought to take it off and they did it.

Also, just because a service contract is sold by an Acura dealer does not mean that the policy is underwritten by Acura. The word Acura in the name of the contract doesn't mean that either. Do some research on the company underwriting the warranty and convince yourself that the company will be in existence longer than you plan to own the car. If the underwriter's main address, for instance, has an apartment number in it, that's probably a bad sign.
If you were offered a refund if the warranty isn't used, make sure you get that promise in writing (and make the salesman point out the writing, and make sure that the writing seems to promise what the salesman is promising). If there's anything that seems even remotely fishy, insist on getting the details clarified in writing to your satisfaction.
I am not just being paranoid here. Two of my friends have been utterly screwed on service contract claims and they both learned the hard way the lesson I am giving here.
