Door Handle Illumination

whats up guys, im a first time poster with a question. i want to put LED's in the door handles. i want it set up so that they only stay lit for about 10 seconds after i hit the lock/unlock on my aftermarket alarm. basically i think all i would need is a relay that gives power for 10 seconds to be placed in between the power of the alarm and the power of the LED. does anybody know how i could accomplish this?!

Where would you mount the lights? I'd be interested to see what it would look like.

I dunno about your idea...it's unique, but in my opinion I think it'll cheapen the look of the car...
By the way, if you plan to do this, are you planning on putting individual LED's or a strip that covers the whole chrome part of the handle?

I think a single LED hidden behind the door handle somehow would be ok.

Is this on the inside or the outside of the car?

If you could integrate the led into the door recess behind the door handle, it might be a cool looking mod. Make sure to use an led that matches with the interior leds.

I would start with a search online for the relay you're seeking. One way to do this would be to use the door locks as a triggering mechanism for the timer. Another way would be to use the auto-off feature of the headlights which turns off the headlights after 15 seconds. If you could find a way to tap into that power source, you could leave the lights on and anytime the lights are on, the door handles will be lit as well.

Good question. I think most people have been assuming he's talking about the outside. If he's talking about the inside, it would be a lot easier to do.

In my opinion when you go Acura you try and leave the rice behind for all the Eclipses and Toyota's.

i think you guys got the wrong idea. this isnt funky lighting. its on the outside of the car, under the oor handle. so basically it would illuminate where the door handles are like on the lexus and benz'.

It'svery cool, I have it my BMW and when you hit the remote to open the car in a parking lot and the door handles light up it is so damn cool. Go for it!

if you're indian, you should know at least one desi engineer that could help you. i know several ee's that would be able to come up with all kinds of mad schematics after seeing the relay/circuit config.

even though some of us know what you're talkin' about, it might help if you could get some pics from that bimmer for us though. do any other makes/models have them? i think blue or red lighting would look pretty cool on a pwp car, but you'd probably want to make it subtle. sounds like a pretty cool mod, but a giant pain in the ass if you're going to do all 4 doors. 1 door might not be too tough though. good luck and keep us posted if you pull it off.

This feature is on the new RL. Go to your dealer and check it out! It's a pretty sweet feature, same as LED footwell's in the RL.
