Dead Battery, Only 3 years old?
I went to start my car this morning and my car wouldnt start. It ended up being a dead battery. How is this possible? my car is only 3 years old and i have 35,000km. This is not covered under warranty is it?

I do not know about canada but here in the US it has a warranty of 4 years-unlimited mileage. I had my 3 year old tsx battery replaced last week under the warranty. The dealer told me it tested low even tho I never had any problems with it.

yea i called today and they said it is 4 years, 80,000km. They told me that most batteries dont last very long because new cars have so many gadgets, that 3-4 years is about right for a battery. Could the fact that i have a starter/alarm decrease battery life?

Just had my battery replaced under warranty at the dealership today. It's an '06 TSX with 38k miles. Funny was just two weeks ago I had my oil changed and they said the battery was fine. Today I had an alignment done and suddenly the battery failed. No complaints by me tho...replaced fully under warranty no charge.

I can't say that what the dealer told you is false, had to replace my wife's TSX battery at 40,000 miles, but my MB C230 is 7 1/2 years old with 115,000 miles. Still has the original battery and turns over fine. My car has nav and all the regular electronics.

my battery had a weak charge at my most recent dealership 30k mile service in december. my car went into service june 2007 so my battery was also about 3 years old... i got a new battery under warranty... it doesn't hurt to ask for one!

i've known about this too but i've been lucky i guess with my OEM. i'm at about 3.3 years old and 65K miles. the stealership has started doing battery tests when i take it in and according to the print out they give me it's still in good condition.

My battery just died on my on Saturday. Car is 3.5 years old with 40k miles. The battery was so dead that it couldn't be jump started. Even the dealer was surprised how bad it was. New battery was replaced under warranty.

I was in for a regular oil change and tire rotation and they told me that my 2 year old battery was weak. So they replaced it for "free" since it was still under warranty. Anyone out there nearing their warranty expiration date (or miles), do yourself a favor and go get your battery replaced at a dealership.

called dealership this morning cuz i couldn't remember when i had the battery replaced under warranty and they told me december 2009. so yeah, just at the cusp of 3 years.
i start googling this topic and voila! i find this thread and a post i made 3 years ago!
anyway, i went to costco and bought a kirkland brand battery. works like a charm. maybe my senses deceive me but my windows go up/down a tad faster and the car seems to crank/start just a touch quicker. we'll see how long it lasts. if it lasts roughly 3 years, $70 and a few minutes of my time was worth it.

how odd... my battery just flat out died last night cuz i had a brain fart and filled-up gas but left my headlights on... tried jumping it but to no avail.

I'm convinced that the life expectancy of a TSX battery is a crap shoot. The OE battery in my 05 was replaced under warranty at one month shy of 2 years because it "tested bad". I never had a problem with it, but I certainly wasn't going to turn down a new one. The second one lasted 3 and a half years, and though I never had a problem with that one either, I could see that it had one dead cell (the OE battery is not actually maintenance free. The caps are removable, and water can be added)(it will need it occasionally, and use distilled water only by the way). I replaced it with a Delco 60 battery that has performed as well as necessary. The OE battery in the 07 made it almost 5 years, and after it was slow to charge (after the dome lights were left on overnight), I decided to replace it. I don't (and never have) considered the battery "problems" that seem to populate these pages at times a.... problem. Even if the battery had to replaced every 3 years, so what? $100 (or less, my Delco was around $70) shouldn't be too hard to swallow. We've been spoiled by cars like the TSX that excel at most things and require little maintenance. Things do wear out you know....
it sucked for me because i had to replace the rear brake pads, all 4 tires and the battery all within 6 months... while they are all wear/tear items, i wasn't quite ready for these expenses to happen so closely...

A battery's lifetime is measured in months and years (and climate conditions); mileage is irrelevant for the most part. So how long did they last?
