Considering used TSX, Issues? '04vs'05?
Hi, how have the cars been? Are there more issues with the '04? What sort of problems have people had? Recalls?
I've noticed a few negative posts about the DBW (drive by wire) system, leaks, and creeks/squeaks.
What can I expect to pay? I live in the SF bay area.
Thanks,
Andy

Did you try searching the forums? it should help you do your own due diligence.
I got a used 04 TSX and there is PLENTY is information available in these forums which assisted in my decision to purchase a TSX.

I just bought a CPO 2004 TSX in May....so far so good. Although I'm liking the looks of the '06 now!! I shelled out $23,500 before taxes. Actually, I did have condensation in one headlight when I went to pick it up, but I brought it back when I picked up my permanent plates and they fixed it.
Are you planning to do any engine mods?
The Hondata reflash is only available for the 2004s right now. Not sure if that's important to you, but I thought I should mention it.
Otherwise, all of the available engine mods are the same.

bluewave75- thanks for the help, ah, I guess. I did look at the archives that's how I knew about the DBW, Leaks, and creaks. I assume your '04 has been trouble free then?Since you didn't comment on it.
LuvMyTSX- sounds like you are happy with yours and that sounds like a good price, around here everyone wants closer to 25,000 for one with 20,000+ miles.
Tsx536- Good info on the reflash, but not for this car, this one is for the wife. Now if they had one for my S2000.... hehehe
So on my list of things to check for when looking at used cars is the condensation in the headlights, any lights out in the radio/HVAC/Nav system, listen for creaks in the A pillar, check the power seats for grinding noises....
Anything else?

Jeeze, I hi-jacked my own thread and turned it into a performance thread! Hahaha

UCrazyKid,
I've had my TSX since about April of 04, and I have had zero problems with it mechanically. I have just under 24,000 miles. I don't abuse the car but I don't drive it lightly either. Redline 8 - 10 times a week on average.
There's probably not much difference between the 04's and 05's reliability-wise. A few problems that seem to be very common the 04/05 TSX are:
- Various creaks and rattles
- Center console HVAC and radio lights go out
- Hard starting (some people claim this is normal)
- Headlight condensation
- A few folks have had their AC compressor fail
Overall the TSX is probably above average in reliability. As with all cars, there will be problems, and this board is the first place you will hear about them. Searching for problems with the TSX on this board is likely to scare the hell out of you, but just remember that for every one person on this board writing about an issue with the TSX, there are probably 10 or 15 happy owners with no problems (me included). Good luck with your decision.

Mostly trouble free. I had couple rattles (loose door switch), Sound of air leaks in the cabin (windshield seal, and door channel(?) seal), minor cracking of the leather in driver's seat, couple interior lights out, etc etc. I made a whole list and I got ALL of them fixed for free under warranty.
Now I have no problems and especially happy with the brand new leather seat - must be from 05s and feels a lot softer than the stock ones I had.
My only concern is that because my color is MSM (Meteor Silver Metallic) I'm not sure if it will look any good with the OEM kit - because I am looking to lower and install the kit. I wonder if anyone has. I'd like to see how it looks. but I digress.
So in conclusion, I am very satisfied with the TSX. Drives like a dream. 41k miles now but with Lexol leather conditioner applied every other week, the car still smells like new too.

I was actually really surprised that I even got the price I did. All the TSX's around here were listed at $25-$27K with even more miles than mine had (mine had 16K). But I was determined and kept emailing any dealer who listed a car I was interested in, asking if they'd come down on the price a little. One dealer finally took the bait, and that's how I got my baby. My car was listed on 2 different sites as $24999 and $25999 and I never thought they'd come down, but it only takes one and doesn't hurt to try.
Also, if you're willing to buy one private party instead of certified, you can expect a lower price. I, however, needed that extra piece of mind with the certification and warranty.

It appears that a lot of owners do not like the OEM Michelin Pilot MXM4 tires, so if they're there haggle to have them replaced (have some acceptable alternatives in mind), or discount them because you'll soon want to replace them.
