Are Bluetooth compatible phones fully functional w/out navi?
I've been lurking on the forum for awhile and I've read a lot of really helpful information - thanks! I don't have a TSX yet, but I'm planning on getting one as soon as I can find the color combo I want in a 6MT. I also need a new cell phone so I wanted to get one that will work with the TSX.
I searched and found the link to the Handsfree site that lists all the phones and which features they have but I had a question I haven't been able to find an answer to. If I get a phone that passed the testing for all features, will all the phone features still be fully functional on a non-navi (e.g. signal strength, roaming, battery charge, etc.)? If those features do work on the non-navi, where do they display? Thanks!

Mine does not display battery charge. The phone number displays in the speedometer just like how it is shown in the acura TSX photo gallery. One thing you will not be able to use is the call functionality of the navi. For example, if you found a restaurant through the navi and a phone number is listed, you can press "call" from the navi screen and it would dial the restaurant. Pretty cool feature.

that's the same thing it tells you if you have the navi.... there isn't any phone info displayed on the navi screen....

Thanks for all your responses. That answered my question. I wasn't sure which phone to get because I figured that if anything was displayed on navi and I'm not planning on getting navi it wouldn't be worth getting the top of the line phone, but since it's displayed elsewhere maybe I'll go ahead and get one of the phones that are fully compatible. Now, if only I had my TSX already......

As others have pointed out, the information displayed in MID depends on the phone.
My personal Motorola phone just displays signal strength, but my Blackberry for work shows both signal strength and battery.

my LG 8300 displays both signal and battery strength. I wish there was a way to show the name of who is calling on the dash, or at least announce over the speakers the name of the caller if its stored into the phonebook memory

I have a Motorola v3c razr btw. It seems to work w/ all the features except the roam indicator if that helps your decision. I bought my phone based on the anticipation of getting a TSX also. I just gave me another reason to bite the bullet!

My razr (Bell) shows battery and signal. Not sure about roaming as I've haven't been in that situation yet.
If you want more info on incoming calls (other than the phone number), just set your phone to ring and use custom ringtones to your phone's contacts. That way, you'll get the "incoming call"/ring alert over the speakers and still hear a custom ring from the phone... assuming it's within hearing range.

Try that with all the windows down and phone in your pocket going 55 mph!
It really would have been nice if there was an option for the system to speak the name of the caller if the number is in the car's phonebook.

Just to chime in -- I have a RAZR v3m through Sprint. It shows battery level, phone number, and signal strength... I rarely am in an area where I'm roaming, so I've not actually taken time to notice if it indicates roam. I'll try to remember to keep an eye on it.

Truly, the only features that you'll really use is the incoming number being displayed. All those other things (bat life/roam/etc), after a while, you won't really notice. It's nice to have them -- but I'd say the majority of people, over time, just forget about em.
I'd just say stay in your budget, and go with whatever bluetooth capable phone you choose. I'm sure 99.9% of them will at least show incoming call #.

I've had the following...
Nokia 6230b - showed caller info (older version of bluetooth)
Sony Ericsson W600i - showed caller info, battery level, and signal strength (with new firmware - old firmware didn't work for some reason when trying to make a call)
Sony Ericsson W810i - showed caller info, battery level, and signal strength
Sony Ericsson Z520a - showed caller info, battery level, and signal strength
Samsung Sync - showed caller info, battery level, and signal strength
Motorola KRZR K1 - showed caller info, battery level, and signal strength
There are some great threads on compatibility with various car HF systems at www.howardforums.com
