Back Up Sensor

Hi everyone,

Has anyone tried installing one those reverse back up sensors on their bumper? Is it a clean install?

Not that I can not parallel park but some times in NYC parking spaces can be kind of tight. You don't really want to scratch your paint.

Thanks

All I've seen is the back up camera routed to the Navi screen or into a screen within a rear view mirror, but I imagine stuff like that is out of most of our leagues.

I believe it's an option on some euro accords so maybe someone like Mr. Heeltoe could source it for you.

Backup sensor

In their October 2004 issue, Consumer Reports evaluates some.

parallel park

Hey I hear what you are talking about, I parallel park mine in manhatten almost everyday. But I only touched another car once and that was when I first got the car like 2 months ago. Just be careful and over compensate, the tsx rearend is really short I've found and I usually have more room than I think with it.

Yeah, I am beginning to know what you mean. I've look up some sensors and some are actually mounted no your license plate. I am not sure how well they work. If I get one I'll let you guys know.

I know it's painful to park in NYC especially I am so used to the backup sensor I installed on my 98 Accord. I took out the stick on type (the black ugly one) from my old car and may install them to my new TSX. However, I just saw the VR-3 backup camera kit from Costco the other day and it is a nice kit but still requires to run a wire through the plate frame.

TSX_NYC, have you managed to install the plate type backup sensor? I am in Queens and deperately need a backup sensor now before my bumper gets scratches.

Well guys, I've got them, the OEM sensors do not have any display, they are only audio, believe me, this is the first car with sensor I have, when I'm parking I've never turn my head back... If u usually do parallel parking you need them, last week someone scratched my car in a parking... Everyone need them, especially girls... :P

Maybe research this one, might have gotten an ok review. Although wireless, you still need to power it. Think other better camera systems were more than $500.

Here is a quote from something that can't be linked:
Roadmaster VR3 Wireless Backup Camera is just $140

If the parking is that tight, what do you think the person parked behind you is going to do when they leave? Hit your bumper!

hey if you are in NY, visit a shop called navtogo .

i honestly recommand backup camera than sensor, sensor u actually have to drill ur bumper and it could be ugly. plus, it's around 200 + with installation.

i would rather get an input for nav, if u have nav and get a backup camera.

i called the place couple weeks ago, and they do sensors, backup camera, and also DVD movie on screen. i think it's pretty well known shop for this.

jaehshim, thanks for your tip. However, my car is a non-NAVI version which doesn't have a video input otherwise I would love to have backup camera. However, either way, you will have to drill holes no wonder which method you choose.

Well, I was at Costco here in TN today and saw a backup camera unit that you may be referring to. It was priced at 89.95. I was really tempted in getting it, but then saw the words "Made In China" and immediately dropped it like a hot potato. Anybody using it? I generally avoid electronics with those three words on the products unless it's something I don't mind breaking down within a couple of weeks.

Just to let u know practically everything is made in china. There's nothing to lose if u brought it from costco as they have great return policies.

Those aftermarket backup camera units look pretty interesting, but my concern is where to mount that lcd screen. I dont want soemthing cluttering up my console.

That's a pretty ignorant opinion. If it is being sold in a retail store as big as Costco you can assume better. Would you want every generic piece of electronics that hits eBay? Probably not. But just because it is made in China does not mean you should rule it out.

I agree with you. US companies R&D the product and try to sell the products in a more competitive price for consumers like us. I think there's nothing wrong with this concept. Yes, Made in China eletronics are not that reliable at certain points but if you compare the price, there's ruled with another measurement.

i have to do side-street parking everyday as well. while you try to leave some room between you and the other cars, not everyone does the same courtesey. just the other day i was stuck between two huge sedans (presumbly private taxi cabs b/c they were all black) with mere inches to basicaly squeeze my way out. so far, i haven't tapped anyone b/c i'm overly cautious when i'm parking in and out (the back/bumper is definately short so it can be tough to gauge). luckily, i don't think anyone has hit me.

although the other day at pathmark, i came out of the store and saw some errant shopping cart kissing the passenger side front door. no dent or scratch though. but i nearly lost it.
