you know the howl in engine bay?

I know this has been discussed before but my question is will this howling affect my engine in anyway if i DON'T get it fixed?

For those that don't know what howl i'm talking about, its the howl that some get when they get their belts changed. I'm not sure if its the belt thats causing it - if its too tight or too loose.

It could just take some time for the times to settle, I guess. I had a screeching for two days after changing my belts, but it only occurred when I started the car, and only lasted for about 30 seconds... Is yours constant?

~Cheers~

It is constant. for some reason, it only happens when i go to this specific location LOL! i THINK it goes off when i hit a bump in the road. Its so embarrassing when im at a light. everybody looks around to see where its coming from and once they locate it, they then look at the driver

does it turn off when if you turn the A/C off? i had a problem like that (although when it got worse, turning the A/C off did nothing) but it wasn't a howling, it was more of a scream. if that sounds like you, i have the paperwork of what they had to do to fix it and can let you know.

I know this may sound weird, but do you know if they had to remove the intake manifold to put them on? If they did, you may just have to take off the aluminum cover to get to the bolts and tighten them a little more... I'm guessing it's unlikely that that's what the problem is, but that's my Good luck

Belts should not make noise after initial break in
Some must be installed to run a certain directon- much like tires

They could be misaligned or the wrong size or a defective part
Back to the place that did it right away before you have more problems

i got the belts changed like..40k miles ago so i doubt they'll remember my car and do it free of charge? I guess i could pay them but im sure its like the price of a brand new belt and labor (200+ bucks??). the squeel use to go off once in awhile but lately its been squeeling every freaking day... it'll turn off after 30 min of driving sometimes but its so embarrassing..

hey baller, i'm not at home right now and wont be for a week but when i do get home, i'll get my service receipt out and let you know exactly what they did to fix my scream. i'll let you know right now though, at least in my case, the belts were completely fine and the repair was somewhere around $500 .

i know, it sucked like no other but i couldn't stand it anymore. it had something to do with the radiator i believe? and yes, with trying to figure out what the problem was, parts, and labor, it came out to about $500.

and yes, the belts were all fine because that's what i initially had them check when i took it in about 2 months before i had it fixed. it might be different in your case but in mine, they checked the belts, gave me the car back and on the way home it started screaming again. i hated the way people would look around with the "what the fuck?!" look on their face trying to figure out what the noise was/where it was coming from. very embarassing

keep in mind though that i had the acura dealer do the repair. it probably could have been done cheaper at a shop.

oh god no, i had it fixed, thank god. what i meant was that i went to get it fixed by a honda dealer and they checked the belts, gave it back to me and then it started screaming again on the way home. i lived with it for awhile but then about 2 months later i made an appt. with the acura dealer and they were the ones who actually fixed the problem and i've never had it scream since.
