Transmission fluid flush will VOID warranty???

I want to have my transmission fluid change by my mechanic but I have did some research and find out that a few people claim that if you don't have the transmission fluid flush at Acura/Honda dealer they will void the warranty on the transmission. So I figure this is a reason for them not to replace your transmission if it goes bad? Anyone know anything about this?

If you do the acura repair manual specified method of
"warm trans-drain 3 qts-replace-drive 5 minutes- drain 3 qts -replace, repeat 3 times for a total of 9 quarts"
and KEEP receipts for Honda ATF bought from Honda dealer-
log it on your acura.com account and in the book maitenance log

The word FLUSH has gotten a bad name because quickie places use a different method that will NOT work on your acura- there is a plate preventing their suction hose from getting in.

You can only have warranty issues if you DONT do the service somewhere- even at home, there are laws protecting YOU about this

If your still driving a gen1 car- you are not part of the 7/109 gen2 warranty for the 99-03s
and would be well past any warranty concerns

why don't you just do a drain and fill like i did. used about 4 quarts. It will not void the warranty

the only way to do it right is with 9 qts using the 3x3 method

the trans will only give up 3 qts of its total capacity at a time- this method forces as much change as possible

Anything less is like changing 1 qt of engine oil and calling it done

or you can maybe take like 10 quarts of fluid, dump it into a bucket, and get another empty bucket, and disconnect the cooler lines at the radiator and submerge the inlet into the new fluid while the outlet into the empty bucket and start the car and shift through the gears. that would be a full fluid flush! haha

^ Don't laugh, Ben did that with his car. Worked great, although his tranny is a POS. Ran it until the fluid coming out of it was just as clean as the fluid going in. God knows how much fluid he went through that day...

Oh I need to change my transmission oil, but I had no idea about all of this stuff. There's a penzoil place not far from where I live and I was thinking of going there, but do you guys think they'd do a good job, or should I go to my Acura dealer instead(and pay more)? And also, do you have to do something similar when you change the engine oil or is it just flushed and replaced?

Yeah, but I'm not much of a DIY guy when it comes to cars. I changed the engine oil at the penzoil place and it took them like 10 minutes. But I dunno where would it be best to go for the transmission oil. I would maybe try to do it myself but it's too damn cold already.

NEVER let a quickie place near your trans- they dont carry HONDA trans fluid and what they use is not good for us-

Its a little time consuming- 1 hour or so and you need a pair of ramps and a drain pan.
Its easier than changing engine oil because there is no external filter to deal with

Read thread Seafoamed the ol TL for directions on internal engine cleaning

yea, those 10 minute places have been known to undo your drain plug, let some of it come out, then screw it back in before its finished draining. When I do my engine and tranny fluid, I always take my time to wait for everything to come out. I even jack up the side of the car thats opposite of the drain plug's direction to get more out. Not only that, but the 10 minute places might strip the plug while putting it back in or over tighten it while putting it back on. Remember those places are run my morons. look up those EZlube investigations, it really shows their BS.

Damn that's crazy! I never even knew about this stuff. So you think that they to the same shit at the Acura dealers? Because like I said it's getting cold in here and I've never even done this kinda stuff. If it does get a little warmer I might try it but I don't know if it will.

BTW, I Seafoamed when I first put my motor in and no white smoke came out. I Seafoamed on Wednesday before I went to the track and even after 5000+ miles, still no smoke. Man, my motor is CLEAN~!

Dealers are really a hit or miss. If you know the techs personally, it's safer, but generally, the dealership service dept. is also run by a bunch of lazy guys.

thats odd no smoke- solvent burnoff is part of that- but you have a special car!
Are you doing a 15 minute cruise to warm the engine first- then seafoam- wait 15 minutes- drive like escaped mental paitent..

Dealer trans service- pain job for them unless they have a drive thru oil rack- then its drain-refill drive 5 minutes- pull back in repeat
Imagine how much time it takes if the tech has to put it on the real lift 3 times- you pay for that time

IF a drive thru place will use your own HONDA fluid and have you do it as we say- then its ok, as long as they torque the drain plug right! 29 foot pounds
Take a new one with washer and be safe

Its plenty warm under the car for this job! Dont worry about that!
Thats why only 5 minute drive between drains-
so no scorch the home tech working on ramps in the driveway!!
