Hi folks!
I have a 1998 3.2 TL with 153K miles on it. A couple of days back the engine check light went on and when I checked the error code, it says "P 1791 manufacturer contrl transmission". I have been trying to find out what it means in detail and what might be the solution, but in vain! Please help me with this - I am afraid I might have to spend a fortune to get it fixed!!!!

 

P1791 is code for Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) fault. Following are possibilities:

1) Disconnected VSS (not very likely but easy to check)
2) Short or open in VSS wiring (more likely but still remote)
3) Faulty VSS (most likely)

Check ebay for replacement VSS. If you're game, you can buy a cheap Accord VSS and install parts into your housing to reduce cost to <$25. I did this for my 2.5TL.
