Ignition key remains in switch. Key will not turn to the off position, even though key will start and stop the engine. The key not being able to turn to the "off" position keeps the key from being able to be removed from switch. I have been operating the auto with this problem, but this causes the battery to be discharged and then I have to recharge. Is there a simple remedy to this slight problem?

 

Take your ignition covers off and you should be able to see a small black cable going to a little box on your ignition switch held on by a couple pf Phillips screws. Undo the crews and take the cable off and a small steel cylinder should fall out. Now try to remove the key.

 

are you sure your automatic shifter is in the park position? if not move it a couple of times intot he park position until it releases. thats another way. pretty sure thats whats wrong with it

 

i have this same exact problem. the thing is u cant take off the cover because the key is blocking the bottom piece from coming off. is there anyother trick to get the key out somehow??

haha...well i put some dubya D-40 in there and it turned and came right out. went to wal-mart and got a new key made and now everything is good. crazy.

 

If your new keys work fine. I had a problem getting duplicates made at ACE awhile back and ended up getting keys at the Acura dealer to my VIN. The keys looked so much different that the parts guy went out to check my car. I guess he was afraid of people getting keys made for cars to steal.

Main 700072.. thanks my man! I had tried all the other remedies. I had been having trouble for a while having to force the key forward to crank the car. I would wiggle it and turn it back and forth until it eventually work pass the resistance and started. Then yesterday the key would not turn back to the off position, just like the fellow above. I got it out twice but finally it was stuck for good. I tried pliers after my thumbs got sore. The key was stuck in the ignition and the battery drained over night. This is a 1997 TL 3.2 with 181K miles. Still on the road. A little WD-40 and I'm good to go! I wouldn't believe that would fix it if I didn't see it myself. Thanks again!!!

Shot some spay lube inside the ignition by pushing the key up and sliding the tube inside, then did the same by pushing the key down and inserting the tube inside. Worked the key to the on/off position several times and the key came right out. Then shot more lube deeper inside the key slot and reinserted the key. Worked the ignition on/off several times and my issue is solved!

hello, I was wondering where exactly you sprayed then Wd-40? my key isn't the original and it's completely stuck in the ignition. it finally drained my battery so I'm desperate for answers. please and thank you.
