It stays on to cool your car/coolant in radiator down(bring temprature to normal). It should turn off after few minutes, if doesn't go see some mechanic. May need a radiator flush with new coolant.

it's normal for the fan to say on after a heavy driving, to cool off the engine.

while new coolant is often a good idea, there are things to check first.

Is the radiator level FULL up to the bottem of the filler neck?
The hose to the res bottle is connected there, and inside the cap at the bottle (or however yours hooks up)
The level in the res bottle is at cold full?
If those were low find the leak in the system!!!!

If those were good, then the temp sensor relay is dieing
check with a gen1 guru- on my gen2 its on lower radiator corner-passenger side, other years may be on the thermostat housing
Look for something with a wire running to it- that would probably be it.
Fan running for 15 minutes after shut down will kill the battery and overheat the fan motor
Get to work on this right away

Mine use to stay on and then come to find out one day I opened the hood and there was coolant all over the engine bay. I got a radiator and that fixed my problem. It is normal though so some fans to stay on but I would get it checked out.

The very first day I drove my car home after I bought it, the fan stayed on after shutting off the engine. I was afraid something was wrong. After talking to a few mechanics, I found out that this was normal and only applies to some cars that are designed to do this to prevent the heat from blowing the head gasket. Over the years, I have realized that it only does this after a lot of traffic stop and go driving with little hwy if any in hot weather. It should be normal, but should not be on for no longer than 15 minutes.

My cars cooling fan kicks in very often. I drive in city most of the time and usually it is very cold outside but it still would kick in more than usual, so does this sounds like a problem??
