manual tranny?

i have a 96 3.2 premium with 180000 miles on it. been doing small modifications to the engine. i.e: injectors, ignition, cold air, ecu reprogramming and exaust. sadly all this wonderful power isbeing put into an automatic transmission. wher i proptly lose significant anounts of torque. is it possible or even feasable to place a manual(5 speed) transmission in this car? if so i need a place in virginia and a estimate on price. im wanting to break the 300 HP barrier and dont want to grenade an automatic unless i can be assured that it will handle it. is there upgrades available for the auto?

good luck... we share the engines with the Legend and they had MT availables but our cars are OBD-II... so the hard part would be finding the ECU to be able to work with our cars... but anything is possible... you could rewire the car to OBD-I

:werd;

You gotta rewire it for OBD-I

Trust me, I've had it done.

You really should just get a 3.5 motor from the '96 - '04 RL, do some manifold work and a 6 speed manual from the Legend

well i actually wrecked my baby this past saterday. went around a sharp curve in the pouring rain at 35 mph and hydroplaned it... over corrected and spun the car. hit the curb sideways and the right rear tire is 6 inches in and folded under pretty badly. no other damage. just replace the rear control arms and other small parts and shell be right back on the road. the TCS was off....

Off-topic - is there any way to install TCS on a car that doesn't have it?

Well, they sell aftermarket ones that work almost identical to factory ones. They tie into your ABS sensors to monitor wheelspin and cut ignition accordingly.

K9500, good luck in getting the car repaired. I have a few questions, though:

What did you use for tuning your ECU?

What injectors are you running?

What did you do to upgrade the ignition?

The thing is, none of these mods are minor on our cars, so I'm really curious. I almost went with an upgraded ignition system, but for over $1000? Nope. Don't need it yet.

~Cheers~

one of my friends did the retuning on the ecu. and helped me modify a msd box and coil system for the ignition. he found out that injectors from what i believe was a 240 SX fit in the car and almost doubled the cc's int putting out. ive not done much of the work personally. the spark plugs are ac delco generics that i modified by grinding and grooving the anodes and contacs. kind of a trade secret though there. im still wanting to break the 300 HP barrier. need to dyno it and see where im at now...

a 5spd swap is something i wanted to do as well years ago. i know the vigor has a 2.5 5spd but the wiring is the trick.

is there any mods for the autos to hold more power? i thought for like accords there was something to make the stall a lower rpm??

I just want to know all the tricks for performance, if any, i can do to my 2.5 to pick it up a bit.

Shouldnt be that much of a difference doing a swap from the vigor 2.5 to a 2.5 TL. The engines are the same and most likely all the wiring is probably very similar. I love my 3.2 but the only downfall is that they werent made in manual transmission.

Im still happy though as I also got a vigor that is manual and it sure as hell fast.

im taking a page out of clot45's book while im fixing the car, with the adjustable control arms, konis, and ground control setup in the car as well as the sway bar he used. what is really helping right now is the 94-97 accord suspension is the same. much more available. also looking at the mods to convert my engine to the type II engine.i have bought the OBD 1 harness and am looking for the 5mt now. full engine swap to the 3.5 and 6mt is too much right now.. just need to get the car rolling again for summer. tranny will wait till i get back from my next overseas deployment...

^ What branch are you and where were you stationed? Anyhow, the 6SP swap practically requires half the firewall to be cut out and re-welded, and that's why I didn't attempt it.

~Cheers~

P.S. I still gotta ask:
