What kind of oil is everyone using here?

I posted a message last week about switching to synthetic on our cars. I'm still debating on going that route. I'm curious what everyone here uses currently and whether they've noticed improvements or losses between various products.

For the last year I've been using 5w-30 non-synthetic high mileage oil. Since the oil is a little thicker than regular 5w-30 and i don't have any leaks right now I might switch back to regular 5w-30 next oil change or try a sythetic.

I'd like to know what others have under their hood here.

ATM I'm on Quaker State synthetic 10w-30 since the 5qts.+filter+change was $20. I forgot to tell them to use 5w-30 but oh well. I normally run Castrol Syntec 5w30 but I'm considering going back to GReddy or RP once I start working again. I thought that retiring early would be fun, and it was, but after 2 1/2 months, I'm getting bored...

Funny you should say that. I'm far from able to retire but my work involves many breaks in between projects. I had 2 months off until recently and I was losing my mind, as soon as I start working however I can't wait for a break. Weird how that works.

I know, one of those things where you want what you don't have, I guess...

Those blends only have a small amount of synthetic oil in them...

I use Mobil 1 Full Synthetic on both my TL's. 5W-30 on my '98 3.2TL, and 5W-20 on my '05 TL A-spec.

5W30 which ever is on sale. Every time there is a rebate at Pep Boys, I stock up! Oil change every 5,000 miles and tranny drain and fill every 10,000 miles, no complaints.

I also use Mobil1 5w-30.

I use it in all the cars and motorcycles at the house. I find the longer drain to be worth the higher price. Otherwise I'd be changing oil every other week.

With synthetic, I don't record the mileage. I just let the 7,500 counter in the 1st gen TL keep track of things. I'd never be comfortable running regular oil that long.

The dealer uses Valvoline 5w-20 oil. I get free oil changes there for life every 3000 miles, so that oil is good for me. If I didn't get free oil changes - I'd go with a full synthetic like Mobil One and a 7500 mile interval.

I want to know why would you change the tranny oil so often (every 10,000 miles) ?

I know plenty of people that do the same, and then I know people with a garage stocked up with mobil 1. Personally I use 5W-30 Mobil Drive clean since it's cheap and gets the job done.

Hi, regarding Mobil 1, is it a good choice for a 96 first gen? BTW I have oil spots! The local service shop here says its not worth it so to speak. My TL has done about 62,000 KMs (39,000 miles). PS. don't believe my mileage is genuine
Thanks.
