tint law bypass?

Does the window tint percentage have to follow the law of where your car is registered or where u drive? For example, Florida law allowes darker tint then NY, so if u have Florida plates but spend alot of time driving in NY is it ok to have the darker tints that Florida allows but are illegal in NY? In other words, if I'm pulled over in NY because my tints are too dark will I still get a ticket if I'm within the law of Florida?

Thanks

thanks dat. that just doesn't seem fair because what about someone who drives up to NY from Florida to vist family? Are they expected to rip off the tint before they drive out of Florida?

they can technically give you a ticket but it would be easy for you to fight in court... especially if you tell the judge that the car is registered out of state and you were just visiting family... you are technically not breaking any law in the state that your car is registered to...

however, if the cop really wanted to give you a ticket, he would just give you a different type of ticket like seatbelt or unclear license plate... i got one of those once...

New York and New Jersey dont allow tinted front windows at all. I used to have limo (5%) all around and Id get pulled over every night. But then again in the suburbs they have nothing better to do. In New York everyone has front tints because there are greater concerns and the streets are far too packed to be stopped for a tinted windows ticket and even for moving traffic violations. If you are given a ticket and you decide to go fight it in court, I know you still have to pay a court fee. Around here that fee is 33 dollars. The tinted windows ticket costs 55 dollars. So do the math, its not really worth it to go out of your way to save 22 dollars, not even saying that you might. You might be told that you have to remove your front tints and otherwise they will impound your car in the next instance it happens.

My cousin is from Florida and he got pulled over for tints. His tint 5% all around.....HWY 1 checked the tint with a light meter and it was illegal. He recieved a summons for each window #2 at $60 each total $120. Long story short........he plead not guilty, went before the judge and your Honor threw the ticket out. Due to the fact that the vehicle was not registered to NY and it was registered in Florida where tint is legal, the vehicle in question is in compliance with Florida regulations and the ticket was wrongfully given......case was dismiss.

I'm a civil servant in NY and NY does allow tint on the front windows, it has to be I think 50% on the front windows and any percent on the rear.

i have 5% in the back windows (as dark as possible) there isnt a limit for back windows, this is in toronto, the legal limit is 35% driver + shotgun windows, i have 20% but i have not gotten pulled over yet. I see many cars with below 35.

I've seen 2.5%! Would never use that, though, as my night vision has slowly gotten worse over the years and I have enough trouble as it is, hehe.

~Cheers~

then re-check your civil servant manual cause you cant have tint on front AND rear door windows. the only window you can have tint on in NY is the rear defroster window
