Cat Converter gone bad?
Cat Converter gone bad?
Hi all,
I'm new to the list and not all that car-savvy, so please bear with me. I have a 98 CL 2.3 with approx 90K miles. I noticed a few weeks ago it was making a rattling sound underneath which has progressively gotten worse. Yesterday, the check engine light came on. Took it to Autozone and found that it had 2 codes, P0141 and P0420.
My layperson guess is that the cat converter is gone, but I would appreciate your input. (The errors indicate 02 sensor, but the printout from Autozone seems to indicate that the sensor involved is #2 in bank 1, which is located either in or after the cat converter).
Local Acura dealership wants $720 for a new cat. I know this is outrageous, since I saw them on the internet for around $150.
Do you guys concur with my guess that it's not a sensor but actually the CC? Please, all opinions and advice are appreciated. (I can't work on cars to do this myself, as I'm a 54 year old grandmother...I know that's not really an excuse, but I've never learned the finer points of auto-mechanics
.
Thanks,
BJC
